Galactica: General Discussion

Question:- Did this really cost £12m to retheme and add VR? Is that not the original AIR construction price?
The £12 million is the original cost, I'd be surprised is the retheme cost and third of that.

That's what I thought but saw this figure quoted all over the media.
It would be a waste at that amount to be fair

I'm pretty sure all the journalists have done is Google 'Galactica Alton Towers', click on Wikipedia and taken the cost from there. Doubt they've done much digging into the price beyond that.

Sounds like lazy journalism.
The £12 million figure probably means the staffing and wet wipe costs for 2016![]()
You jest but it wouldn't suprise me if Merlin included that figure for the rides expected lifecycle

Given what it is, I can't see how Galactica could have even cost £100,000. No way was it more than that.

I'd say we're looking more at 500K, given the development of the graphics, the headsets themselves and so on.

It wasn't an expensive addition, but it was a multi-million pound addition from what has officially been said. This will of course include everything such as marketing. I wouldn't be surprised if the cost of the Rollercoaster Restaurant was included as well.

The cost of the Rollercoaster Restaurant was separately stated as £3 million.
Oh really? Not seen that before, do you know where this was stated? If that is the case then Galactica also cost around £3 million - I know that the budgets for both projects was roughly the same.

Both budgets were stated in a social media response at the end of February, to a post commenting on the then recently confirmed ride removals and suggested closures, presumably with the intention of showing that they were making notable investments in the theme park this season.
Not sure how precise the figures are given the source, as I've also heard a slightly higher figure for the restaurant, although that potentially includes Coffee Lounge too.
