Just on the topic of getting ID'd if you disagree with it then tough it's the law and it happens everywhere.

To be fair a bar doesn't have to have a reason to not serve you, but that's another story. I'm 30 and I carry ID, it baffles me when younger folk don't then get arsy when they are refused a drink.

Staff in any bar are busy they may have glanced briefly at you and caught your good side. But once the question is asked they are obligated to see it through even if they then realise your fine.

Indeed - and the bar staff are personally liable if caught serving alcohol to under 18s, so I'm not surprised they go on the side of caution!

An easy way to solve the problem is use the bars more so the staff know you

I've got no problem with being ID'd at all - I know that it's a quick, yet important, procedure - and I've had to do it countless times while at work. I just thought it was interesting that I didn't get ID'd at all during the day, but I did when the park had closed. :p

It kinda depends on the staff whether you get ID'd or not. Some staff ID almost every person they serve, others ID very few they serve, and each staff member will guess ages of guests differently. Also in more sophisticated bars with computer systems that track staff sometimes staff have to ID x amount of guests per shift, or are regularly monitored with how many people they ID. I would assume Alton Towers has some kind of monitoring system in place.

I think it's silly for people who are refused drinks to kick up a fuss, although no one has complained about that in here so this whole subject is pretty pointless. :p

Those kind of tracking things are usually in place to prove due diligence in case of a purchasing fail.

If it went to court, the premises would be less likely to lose their alcohol license if they can show that their staff regularly ask for ID / refuse sales to people without and so on.

    Fun fact

So the new Alton Towers website confirms what we thought in regards to the hotel pricing structure:

    • Most expensive
    • Treehouses
    • Themed rooms in hotels
    • ATH
    • Lodges
    • Splash
    • Least expensive
Standard ATH Explorer rooms are being classed as superior with moon voyager rooms being supremium.

    :)

Having stayed in ATH years ago and then Splash recently, the rooms at Splash are the smallest so this seems correct. Looking at the show lodges, these have the bunk beds screened off so are possibly a little bigger than a Splash room.

I don't think a moon voyager room looks like it is worth £50 more than a standard ATH room though, but is worth a lot more than a Splash room.

Wonder if staying over will now be more affordable now they have more beds to satisfy demand....

.... then again, this is Merlin, nah, forget I said the words "more affordable" ;)

Depends what the occupancy rate is like. If they are getting 90% of rooms booked then there is no need to drop the price.

Last years there were discounts for weeknights (such as Sun 50% off and Annual Pass) but the Saturday night prices have always seemed extortionately high to me, but there must be enough people willing to pay those prices, otherwise they would lower prices or allow discount codes to book Saturdays.

I find it amusing Explorer rooms are advertised as 'superior' rooms, when they are the most outdated rooms (with exception of the bathrooms) available on resort.

To be fair they are superior to Splash rooms. Though still way over priced

The rooms at ATH cannot suddenly become "superior" overnight...

Superior my backside. Dated as he'll more like.

The furniture might be getting a bit old, but they are much larger rooms generally than Splash.

    I don't dispute their size.

But if Alton Towers class those rooms as superior then it would suggest mediocrity is the accepted norm.

The bathrooms were done a year or so ago - now they MUST do the rest as soon as possible.

Splash is closed tonight due to very low demand across both hotels tonight
Still £109 for 4 people a night during the week
