Just to add to this, the whole reception side of ATH (the corridor leading to Splash) is currently closed with all the bathrooms getting refurbished, including the 4th floor above.
You have to go via the conference center entrance to get to Splash/Conference center at the moment.

Nice to see they're being done finally as I've always hated the bathrooms in ATH. I always felt like I was in some run down Travelodge room whenever I went in them!
However, isn't it the plan for the rooms to all be refurbished soon anyway? If so, shouldn't this have waited until then?

Anyone know if the new bathrooms will be themed or not? Or will it just be a generic modern update? (Hoping for the former tbh)
Either way nice to see them getting updated - hopefully they are doing the whole hotel in one go.
This does leave the question though, what has happened to the new themed rooms throughout the whole hotel? I know the initial plan was to re-theme all hotel rooms with different themes (Explorer rooms being the first ones). This seems to imply that they're not doing this now and instead will just update the bathrooms and leaves the rooms as they are. Which is a shame if true.

Mike says it seems to just be one entire side of the hotel getting this treatment right now. Maybe other rooms will be getting a new theme and the ones on this side are still a few years off so it's worth doing bathrooms now? That or Moon Voyage hasn't been as popular as expected so they've slowed down the idea of refurbishments?
Then again, bathroom fixtures and fittings such as lighting, bath, shower, toilet and sink are all fairly standard. These could easily be updated now with a neutral decor and when room changes take place they can keep the fixtures and just change the decoration.
It'll be interesting to see anyway...

It does seem that they are only doing the bathrooms at the moment, from outside you can look in the rooms and they have plastic sheeting blocking the room from the work taking place in the bathroom, when they refurbished the Moon rooms, they completely stripped the whole room.
Also are the bathrooms still the original ones from when the hotel opened nearly 18 years ago?

The bathrooms are the main complaint with the rooms when you read TripAdvisor. However i wouldnt expect too much.... probably any cracked baths will be replaced, new grout and sealant in the bathroom, and probably a new but identical sink unit. I think the bathrooms will prob end up pretty much the same as they are now, just with new fittings where appropriate.

Just a plain simple white suite will suffice for all the rooms for now (and its about blinking time!)
Then when they come to re-theme them to Space rooms (or any other theme) its just a simple coat of paint, a few painted decorations etc. They wouldnt need to change them again.

The Moon Voyager rooms are OK but I do think they rely too much on stickers and purple paint rather than quality theming.
Good to hear about the bathrooms, something which should have been done five years ago.

For me the standard of the Moon Voyager rooms is what i expect for the price you pay for a standard room at Towers (minus the pointless Xbox). Interesting theme, mostly cosmetic nice and functional bathroom.
Having been in one to have a look around they are not worth the price you are expected to pay for them. Basically everything at ATH is over-priced. If they want the basic room to be the price it is then they should be at the quality level of Moon rooms, and for the price of a Moon room i expect more.

Finally a long overdue upgrade! However the rest of the room also needs done. To me the bathrooms always looked unclean as they were so old/dated looking.
Hopefully with a more modern bathroom it will help create a better sense of value for money, however I just feel the entire hotel looks dated these days - the corridors even more so! To me it's like going to visit a really old relative with the decor etc!

3 things that I would change from my only stay 2 years ago was price, damp, bogs. I walked in for the first time after wanting to stay there since the day it opened and thought THIS IS A TRAVELODGE IN A 90's PARTY FROCK. It looked all of its 15 years of age if i'm honest and as the room was below the car park there was damp in the corner of the room. However I did over looked this as it was clean, the staff members were excellent and all though it did look dated it was everything I always thought it would be.
The bathrooms are............... cheap. No matter how hard they looked after them 18 years of hard graft has taken its toll.
Just to lower the tone surely having an oblivion themed toilets in there would be a good touch. At the bottom don't look down would be written. "flush into oblivion" even the smiler logo just to make you uneasy.

Here are a few more updates from today.
Painting was being done on the top floor of the hotel atrium:
The ship is looking rather empty without A-Band-On-Ship:
Meanwhile in Splash Landings work is taking place on the master blaster:
Some work also seems to have taken place on the floor, which is currently closed to guests in the waterpark:
And rather worrying there is this large stain on the roof of ATH, from a water leak I imagine:
And it's a similar story in Splash Landings:
