Goodbye Blade…

It’s not necessarily the fact Blade is closing that is the problem for me.

It’s the fact the lack of long term planning continues. Blade has been on its last legs for years, there should have been a plan in place to secure its replacement ready for removing it.

The same mistakes are being made time after time.

Yeah I think this is the bigger issue over the past years, it was very positive years ago to see the TLC updates then the park seemed to get back on its feet after wickerman launched and just hasn't recovered financially from the pandemic and isnt getting the visitors/budget it used too.
I genuinely haven't felt positive in the parks future for years apart for briefly when nemesis got retracked but then the operations have been terrible since it reopened...

If/when universal opens in the UK towers are in for it, they'll either realise they've competition and start investing and making a better effort or just fold

I've just realised, the Blade's space could be big enough for at least one if not two flat rides. Especially if the area is redone and landscaped.

One if it's a Disko Coaster - two if it's more traditional round platform rides. 🤔
Honestly I think a disko would be a perfect replacement, especially if they theme it well.

The problem with this is that it removes another family ride from the park for those under 1.4m or that don’t want to do more thrilling attractions. Combined with the loss of Enterprise this really isn’t great in that regard.

The farce continues, when the main rides continue to have 2 hour queues and they wonder why. Dungeons and Flávio’s I understand, blade however offers a unique height ride in that area and runs on one member of staff and i would imagine easy to maintain. I assume the reopening the skyride will subsume those costs.

Appalling. My advice is trip advisor and hopefully the influencers hit them hard. Paying more and getting less.

Without wanting to go too far back. The park hasn’t increased overall capacity in a long, long time. It has reduced capacity for the past 10-15 years.

That combined with many non-ride attractions have been and gone. And it’s made a day at Alton at lot less varied, queue centric and enjoyable.

Project horizon can’t come soon enough, and the park needs to have a couple of years of 2 attractions. (Remember them) Even if it’s one at the start and one mid season.

Project horizon can’t come soon enough. And if they sorted out TWODW/Dungeons/4D with it, it would make a hell of a difference.

The entire park must be thousands of people an hour down on overall capacity and it really shows.

Minimum:
X sector - 2 flat rides or equivalent
Dark Forest - 2 flat rides or equivalent
TWODW - Project Horizon, Dungeons, 4D cinema

That’s just to put them back at 2004 levels of capacity.

Shocking really but explains a lot, and also you imagine puts more strain on their existing machinery which leads to reliability issues etc.

Towers is on its last legs full stop. They’ve been giving lip service to “fans” for years. Influencers, given the opportunity for some freebies and ways to drive audience engagement, have been lapping it up and being the business’s PR company for years. The whole place is a disgrace. Bianca isn’t, nor ever has been, a “friend” to enthusiasts. They even wheeled out John W to get everyone excited about the new technology coming to towers “soon”, knowing that enthusiasts would lap it up and keep the PR spin train and conversation going. In the famed words of Mr Lydon, ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated? I’ll place money on Skyride not being ready for opening day next season, too. But importantly, Merlin don’t own the estate and land that towers occupies anymore. The lease it on a rolling agreement. They own and operate the theme park, without owning the land. This makes any exit relatively easy to do. They did the same with many other attractions where they once owned the land. The sold the land and lease it back to operate the attraction(s). When / if Universal come and it adversely affects Merlin attractions, then they have an easy out. Including their obligation to do anything about restoring the towers ruins. Mark my words. Merlin are a huge corporate entity. They care not about enthusiasts. Or keeping “fans” happy. They’ll do just enough to keep people paying and coming back, and when that gets too difficult to do, they’ll be running off to the hills at the first available opportunity.

To be fair it looks like the long term plan is one flat ride per area. Which when all up and running actually leaves us worse off than 10 years ago.

Perfectly fine if we’re getting a dark ride (or other attraction) per area like FV but I doubt it

I'm not suprised it's going after all these years, but still not a good look for all concern. These two other flat rides that Towers have on the books both can't come quick enough and more closed rides is the last thing the park needs.

Yes we're angry but for the love of God don't try and abuse any certain individuals online over some closed rides and try and hold someone to account when perhaps it's not them but rather some faceless higher ups...no wonder Bianca closed her account right before this was announced.

This is really horrendous, even more so if the Dungeons building's foreseeable future is as a Scarefest building rather than a new proper new dark ride.
