While I do agree in one sense. It is worth remembering that liking or disliking something is a subjective thing. So if they think it is rubbish they are not wrong, liking or disliking something does not make you right or wrong, it is very much a personal opinion.

Having no appreciation for theatrical excellence however.....
 
Managed to FINALLY do Hex today, and what do I think of it?? Just simply put, wonderful! One of the best indoor rides in the country, heck, the world, with the best ambience in the country as well, outside or not. The Indoor queue was just perfect with how it builds up tension with the tellies, the wrapped up stone statues, the dark lighting, the ambience music, and the smell pods.

The first Preshow was great, but the second one was just astounding with all the lighting and how it was executed. Smell pods were top notch in both scenes.

The Madhouse section was honestly astounding by itself, but just a tad anticlimactic at the end, though that's a small complaint coming from me. All in all, It was worth visiting the park for Hex alone. Best Madhouse!

I’m glad you enjoyed Hex; it’s one of my favourite indoor attractions in the UK! Did it top Duel/the HH for you, out of interest?

Duel? Without a Doubt! The HH, just a league underneath. Both are equally great in different ways I think, it's all leads down to your preference really. Still prefer the HH from footage. I still loved Hex when watching the POVs when I was younger!

I've often thought a better ending would be that after the main climax of the music and strobe lighting, and the music begins to fade with the twinkling sound effects, that the ride should stay in the dark and the lights only come back on when the room is the right way up, rather than seeing the room return to normal. To me, that would have a much more "wow" factor for the ending.
 
I've been researching Hex and found out that there were changes made to the ride. However I cant find any information on what the original walkthrough was like. Does anyone here have any recollection of the original ride?

It was much more literal, so the current “narrator” wasn’t part of it (Carson from Downton). From memory the video room was meant to be a live link to a professor who explained the legend and then heads down the secret corridor when the feed is lost to static and another voice tries to reconnect to the professor.

You then go into the Octagon where audio is reestablished to the professor who says there are weird things happening in the vault, then the unusual happenings occur in the Octagon. You then went to the vault.

The ride sequence for the vault didn’t change between version 1 and version 2
 
As far as I know it isn't - Euro Theme Park Archive had uploaded it maybe 5-6yrs ago, but unfortunately it isn't live anymore. It was certainly quaint and a bit camp, but not really the sort of thing you'd expect from Towers.

Quick (and very niche) question - were the announcements in the Octagon and Vault re-recorded between v1 and v2? Presumably it was the professor character's voice previously?

I believe they were, Jim Carter who is the current voice of the announcements, played no part in V1.
 
It's probably just me, but I actually prefer the storyline of Hex V1 vs Hex V2.

Same with my two non coaster friends who utterly adore Hex and really got inspire by the story in wanting to find out more about it and the history of the Towers in general. You can see the importance of of an attraction that bases itself of local history or myth and lets others to learn more about it. :)
 
I believe the original announcements on Hex were done by Peter Dickson (tv voiceover), but the majority were all redone when it changed to V2, but there is definitely one or two breakdown announcements which still feature his voice which I’ve heard on the ride.

There were voice-over interludes for the room before you enter the Vault (where you sometimes might wait for the vault to open) as well as the very end of the ride where he says something along the lines of "Whoops-a-doodle, you'd better dash as it looks like we might need to reseal the vault after all."

He didn't actually say whoops-a-doodle, but he may as well have done. The tone of most of the voice-over in V1 didn't really match the tone of the rest of the ride. It was all done in a kind of over-enthusiastic regional professor style.

The exact line was "Good Gracious, that's... that's quite extraordinary! Please leave quickly while you can, don't leave anything behind. It may be necessary for us to seal the vault"
