Hex [2024 Refurb]: General Discussion

Hopefully riding Hex for the first time in two years in about a week's time (and since then have gained a love for dark rides I didn't have when I last rode it), and I'm really excited because I feel like I will fully appreciate it this time. Hopefully most/all of the effects will be working.

Rode yesterday. Didn't seem to be much of an improvement on last season - the audio is still not right in the vault (definite imbalance - the sound appears to be much louder from the "Earl's Machine" end than the entrance side). Overall it's still too quiet, though I think it was a little bit better than last in that respect. Also the parking is still a bit clunky and takes slightly longer than it probably should.

I really wish they'd sort the crap projector in the theatre room also - the quality is abysmal!
 
I rode on Saturday for the first time in 3 years, and I actually thought that the ride seemed in the best shape I’d ever seen it! There were loads of new details in there that I’d never noticed before!

That's very nice to know, as I would prefer to go on it when it is in good shape to fully appreciate the experience.
 
Apart fro the curtain, the ride was in very good condition. I was sat on the far side of the vault from the working speakers, but they were still audible, they seemed to have been turned up from last season, you could hear it over a crowd of 70 odd screaming kids. Feel a bit sorry for those who were sat by the speaker, as it must have been pretty loud.
 
Out of interest, what do you all think will replace Hex when it is finally removed from the park? They can't build a dark ride inside the Towers because they are not allowed to knock down any walls or install new fire exits. I honestly don't know.

Nothing unfortunately, as the external ride building will have to be demolished as per the planning conditions. Long may Hex live though!
 
They can always get planning for a different ride though, as long as the new ride, like Hex, doesn't damage the fabric of the building.
Using pre existing buildings for other purposes is very much encouraged in planning and heritage development.
Good for the planet too, less new construction, less pollution.
 
When Hex does leave, it would be nice to not have a ride in that area for a number of years. Tidy up the Talbot Gallery (doesn't have to be a full restoration) and give access right through the entrance/armoury/picture gallery/octagon and then through the Talbot Gallery into and through the West Wing, then turn right and through the music room and drawing room etc. That could quite easily be done if they clear the Scarefest stuff out of certain parts. Leave this area for guests to explore for a while properly before it gets hidden under an attraction again for 20 years.

Didn't see them on Saturday. When the Octagon scene finished we found a member of staff lurking behind the bookcase, presumably to stop people walking all the way to the vault. They didn't say anything though which was good.
 
There’s so much they could do with the towers it’s gutting it’s so under used.

A permanent museum seems an absolute no brainer, Alton need a home to store stuff, with a bit of effort it could make a great all weather 365 attraction and get use of some unused indoor space

A historical recreation of some areas, as part of the heritage restoration it would be great to see an area restored fully to its former glory, wood panelling and all

Crux reopened and turned into a “historical cinema” perhaps? Something showing old ads, features on the park etc.

A restaurant/cafe - where else more unique than the towers themselves? There’s nowhere else nearby really. The towers cafe of restaurant could be something really special. Especially if higher up.

3D projected nighttime show - a fountain and 3D projected nighttime/evening show really is a must for 365 and later openings for me. Could be reused for every event.

Probably not the right thread for this, but I will say and I know @Thameslink Rail will agree, banquets in the towers, maybe during the Christmas season, would work so well.
 
Does anyone know why Hex is closed? I don't want to be spurned from a ride on Hex due to its closure for a fourth successive visit. 😥
