Hex [2024 Refurb]: General Discussion

Pretty much the same as it was before. Only things I'd mention is that the armoury seems a bit lighter, some of the music seems a bit quieter in parts, too many flashing lights for my particular liking in the Octagon. Still a really good experience overall and was good to watch the faces of people who have never ridden before. Always good fun.

It’s had very limited downtime today. It’s been down once but everytime we’ve been past it it’s been open on a minimal queue. There’s new lighting enhancing the cinema and octagon and the vault which all looks brilliant in my opinion. Speakers are loud, I think the spark generator looks great as well

I would describe the changes to be enhancements rather than changes per se. Its clear a lot of the work will be unseen to the public but overall make it “better” without actually making Hex different from what it was.

It never needed drastic changes and I’m glad they’ve just made the whole experience more of what made Hex, Hex.

The whole Jim Carter narration is exactly the same, just in case anyone was worried. The lighting in the vault is quite crazy, there’s a lot of colour changing without spoiling it. The strobing in the Octagon room is quite intense, I don’t ever remember it being to the extent it is now

Did they bring back the water effect in the octagon that im only 60% sure wasn't paranormal, the one that triggers when the lightning flashes.

I only ever experienced it once during scarefest 2009 but it was cool!

Nope. Though that was removed due to risks of Legionnaires disease rather than a broken effect (I believe).

Typically the worry that many had about the additional lighting was more down to the image editing and not in the moment. Whilst certainly many elements are brighter in colour, it didn't detract.

Everyone loves fibre optics.

The vault finale is getting quite negative reviews. Thought it looked great personally, without saying what it is. It's all very "mad" if I had to describe it, but I thought it worked well with the narrative for the Earl of Shrewsbury. I do feel like it's people being slightly picky, but there we go

Absolutely this, it looked better than I’ve ever seen it in my opinion.

I noticed the red eyes on the upside-down ceiling move/“squint” slightly - did this always happen or is it something new?

I noticed that too, and it was the first time I've noticed it. Maybe I was looking harder though because I was looking for changes? Could be brand new? No idea.

Comments from riding Hex yesterday. I enjoyed the lighting changes and the sound changes - even if I think that the old system was more bassy which really enhanced Jim Carter's excellent narration in the projector room. The new audio doesn't have that low end but overall it does sound balanced and a lot better than the old system (especially in the Vault). They definitely went all out with the smell pods!!!

The new changes in the Vault at the end are great. The cycle seemed a little longer than before? Not sure if it is the case or just me not remembering. It took a longer time at the end for the drum to slowly return to it's "parked" position but that's already been mentioned above.

My only gripe was with how long it took to complete the whole experience once we were inside the Towers. There's an extra holding section now once you go in just before the opening part where the Earl's portrait is on the left hand side (where the old turnstile used to be) so to me it disrupted the flow. Yes, it allowed you to take in more of the original queueline but it took a very long time to go from each area: specifically the projector scene through to the Octagon. In total I timed it as roughly 25 minutes to complete the ride. This isn't including standing outside in the new queue.

I'll put it down to Day 1 teething problems so hopefully it will get better. Nevertheless, great to have Hex back.

Suppose that’s good to soak up the crowds abit I guess and with the dungeons closed

Depending on specifically what you mean (I've not been on it again yet), I think that is something they have done before, though not consistently - I think it may be a temperamental effect. I've certainly seen the eyes do more than just 'be red', over the years.
