Hex [2024 Refurb]: General Discussion

Glad to see it's opened. I was quizzing someone I know that works on attraction lighting there, and they wouldn't tell me whether it would open this year or next (damn those NDAs )

Be good to read a review in spoiler tags if needed as I won’t be there this year. However have they gone all-in on the projection mapping?

I do wish there was a little Projector mapping in some of the rooms but overall looks great and happy it’s back open and money been invested in the longevity

The vault finale is getting quite negative reviews. Thought it looked great personally, without saying what it is. It's all very "mad" if I had to describe it, but I thought it worked well with the narrative for the Earl of Shrewsbury. I do feel like it's people being slightly picky, but there we go
This is odd, because other reviews I’ve heard have also been quite positive about the attraction!!

I’ve not been on it, but for those not able to visit or just interested, the following on-ride video of the vault popped up on my feed:

Had to compare it to old POVs to remember just how it was before, but to me it looks like a good enhancement!

I’m going to reserve judgement for the new projections for when I actually ride it, as they look cool but I feel they slightly break the illusion of turning upside down.

The climax projections remind me of The Upside Down from Stranger Things (ironic, given the name), as it makes it look as you’ve been transported into another realm with the witch with loads of floaty things around the face!

I rode it yesterday 5 times and I still really like the ride, there are some things I think are a bit iffy which I’ll talk about.
Apologies if this isn’t very readable I’m not very good with words unfortunately.
The Indoor Queue
the blue lighting is very nice I did however notice that’s there’s no lights on any of the bundles of items in the corners which I thought was a shame, the tv screens and media are much better quality than before still displaying the documentary like video, without the old lighting the queue has lost the restoration feel with the exception of the construction noises i hope this can be changed to suit it better other than that I really like it still.
Introduction
After the indoor queue your batched into the introduction area through the new doors the turnstile is now gone and the space feels a lot bigger, the door on the side is closed so no light gets in anymore so it’s much darker once again lots of blue lighting with the cloths at the top of the doors into the cinema remain the same lighting (i think) once the preshow starts a light shines on the portrait and all others go out until it ends it’s still the same audio as before although a bit quieter a common theme in the ride now.
Cinema
Once your inside and the doors close the show immediately starts and the remastered video plays and it makes a huge difference much better quality, this preshow is mostly the same until you get to the storm part when the lightning happens in the video the sides of the room light up from behind imitating the lightning in the video when the branch starts to burn lights to the sides of the screen flicker orange, i find these really nice additions that don’t distract anything from the video, lights on the side of the screen also light up blue during the lab part of the video, the audio felt very quiet in here again when at the back of the room would like it turned up more.
The Octagon
Exiting the cinema you enter the octagon the lighting is much different than before no longer having the restoration site look and is more colourful, the preshow starts and is mostly the same until the generator goes out it now has a sound effect rather than just sparking, smoke also emits from it and you can see the lights inside of it flicker (yes the metal concert sparks are still there and plain in sight) once again the show is mainly the same one thing i noticed was the fans for the cloths were extremely loud starting up and ending didn’t affect the preshow for me though, green lights now light up the room subtlety before the horse sound effect which is really nice the witch is also lit in the same colours, when the lightning goes off just before the generator starts up again the room is lit the same green but in what I would describe strobes which I’m not particularly a fan of mostly because lightning isn’t green but i still liked it, the generator then starts up much louder than before which I thought was really cool it starts up much quicker than before and the narration does the same, another unfortunate thing is that there isn’t much bass in any of the rooms in hex anymore especially in the vault I always thought it made the scenes more dramatic must be the new speakers they have installed.
The Vault
When entering the vault the theming is the same the lighting is all different, red and white light up the columns and blue lights up the walls the blue lights stay on during the majority of the show too, once the show starts the room goes to blackness with the tree lighting up green then the machine kicks into action blue runs through the tubes with the lights on the clock like thing spinning, what goes on after is nothing i can explain but it’s very disco like, the finale is very good but the star projections isn’t for me unfortunately, once again the bass is non existent and audio fairly quiet it suffers from the same problem most madhouses have where you can hear the walls creaking if the audio isn’t loud enough the haunting is a great example, another slight issue I have is the painfully obvious lighting on the arm mechanism theming to the sides where nothing was on before slightly ruins the immersion for me.

Overall i do really enjoy the updated hex even if the lighting in the vault isn’t my sort of thing i do really like the emphasis on the machine in the vault is the thing making everything happen as I don’t think many people got that before due to most of the lighting on it being broke, most of the issues i outlined can be fixed easily and I hope they atleast improve from feedback over closed season.

it seems to be quite a few enthusiasts thinking it, I loved it personally but I have seen some rather negative opinions on the finale. There's mixed, and there's positive as well, kind of like everything I guess

Oh no. Hex has broken down and I think it's unlikely to be open anytime soon. I was on it when the door facia panel came loose and got mangled behind the central bit as the room turned.

Ride was e-stopped and they turned the room back and that was the result. Was exciting to get evac'd but do feel for Towers considering it's only just reopened.

My goodness! 😬
Doubt I'll get to ride on Monday now 😭
Assume they'll need to inspect the whole of that side for damage.

How does that happen? Did it find itself coming loose or was it assembled in the wrong place? Never seen that before on Hex.

Rest of the season I'd say. An electrical cable was severed too

Sorry to double post but surely that little wire can't be for the ride system now? If it was larger I'd believe that but that wee cable...maybe part of the lighting set or various SFX for all we know.

I'll explain what I saw tomorrow when I'm back home, but basically it came loose, caught the central bit and got trapped behind it as it moved behind. I'm presuming the ride cut power to the motors due to the extra load because everything else effects and sound-wise carried on.
