Has to be said this doesn't look like it'll be the standout, headlining coaster that the park needs. Three trains with no mid-course will lead to inevitable stacking and it looks hideously slow over some of the taller hills. I'm sure the lower, speedier sections will be great, but it certainly doesn't look the crown jewel that Fury is to Carowinds.
 
This looks good but I can't help but feel a bit disappointed by this. Compared to Leviathan and Fury, it just looks a bit "meh" and feels so short which is mental considering it's over 5000FT long. This will fit in nicely with the park, but I can't help but feel that Kings Island have missed another opportunity here for a world class headline coaster, Banshee was another ruined by the crap restraints...

Looks great.

None of the B&M Gigas have mid courses, do they? They don't tend to stack, the rule is basically "One on the course, one on the lift and one in the station" and they should all shift to the 'next segment' almost in unison, allowing for blocks becoming available. It's a pretty good system all round.

It's a pretty long ride, I'm sure it could have been longer technically but the cost impedes that somewhat. I'd take something like this over a 300ft launched ride and as cool as something like Steel Dragon 2000 is, it does sort of limp home.
 
I know many Kings Island fans have been crying out for a Giga but I actually think this is the wrong choice of coaster for the park, especially when you consider that the layout of Orion is not overly unique. I would argue that there Fury 325 is significantly different to Intimidator, Orion is not significantly different to Diamondback.

Some sort of multi-launch coaster or a new build RMC would have complemented the park's existing coaster line up far better than a B&M Hyper-Giga coaster (this isn't even 300ft tall, the drop is 300ft but height is 287ft).

Of course it will be a good coaster. But I don't think it is the coaster that the park needs right now.
 
@Rob All fair points, but will always challenge the perceived differences between certain types of ride to the vast majority of visitors. Whilst as enthusiasts we'll talk about the intricacies of the differences between what is and what could have been, guests typically just know whether they like something or not.

Kings Island wanted something that appeals to the masses and gives them a marketing tag line whilst being safe, reliable with great capacity and they'll no doubt get that.

Kings Island gets a 300ft roller coaster, but it's the wrong 300ft roller coaster.

Neither of them do, however my stacking fears within KI particularly originate from Banshee and how beyond tedious it was. (I appreciate it's a totally different model, but operations nonetheless).

If I'm brutally honest I'd have rather had an Intamin or even Vekoma over B&M. At least Intamin are much more geared towards a balls to the wall approach with their new found variety in elements, whilst Vekoma's concepts (particularly where Hyperion was concerned) look superb. B&M just haven't really changed their recipe with theirs, and I fear they will all eventually blend into a 'samey' mess when enough of them have been ridden.

It's just a crying shame the park didn't go for something a little more.... out there. But hey, at least Flight of Fear will be open right next door to it!
 
I am not sure Cedar Fair will be going anywhere near Intamin anytime soon. Balls to the walls is fine, but some of the close calls they have had with their rides have seemingly made them conclude the risk just isn't worth it - not to mention the reliability factor.
 
Compared to the likes of Fury, it does seem a little underwhelming. That being said - it's a B&M giga, it'll be a great ride and a hit for the park I'm sure.
 
Is this even technically a Giga, since it’s less than 300ft tall? Even if it is, it’s only just about there.

Also, when did all these swoopy low turns become such a thing? What’s wrong with hills, lots and lots of airtime hills...
 
Kings Island have confirmed Vortex will be closing after 33 seasons on October 27th.

I was pleasantly surprised that this ride wasn't as shocking as I assumed it would be back in the summer!

It'll be interesting to see if it's replaced with another coaster after Orion, or the the site used for something else.

I was always keen to try this one, for some reason.
 
It's a lovely site within Kings Island, you'd think they could do something 'nicer' with it than stick a typical Cedar Fair coaster there. Good ride. Quite glad the UK didn't end up with one of these during that era, wouldn't have had a happy ending.
 
Shame to see this go really, always thought it was pretty iconic. Viper and Anaconda are the only big Arrow multi loopers left now right? Have to wonder how much longer they'll last.
 
Viper at Magic Mountain is bigger than both Viper and Anaconda, and is unfortunately still operating!
 
I didn't really mind any of the Arrow loopers I did over the summer; in fact I'd go as far as putting Tennessee Tornado up towards my top 50.
