Legoland Windsor

We really need to stop throwing around words like incredible when we’re talking about a painted show building and some (admittedly impressive) lego models. Merlin should be doing much better with their investments than they are . This is not an immersive themed area by any stretch of the imagination
 
I would say the ride is on par with EP, it’s got some good moments and I do really like the ride system.

The queue line however is a standard Legoland cattle pen, but at least it’s inside so keeps you away from the rain and sun, there’s also air con inside the building which is nice in the pre show.

I wouldn’t say the actual queue line is very long, but it’s got a big plaza area, but after the queue has got out the plaza area it will get a bit messy as it gets in the way of the other rides in the area.

I mean that's a bit unfair. Would be interested to know if you've visited the area?

Granted it's still many many leagues off the likes of Disney, Universal, EP etc., but it's a definite step up from other Merlin investments.
 
Unthemed boxes , cattlepen queues, bare sheet metal in the queues. It’s better than we’ve had and the ride itself I’m sure will be good, but there’s no cohesion to the area , most of the buildings appear to be boxes in the same colour with the same entrance design. I don’t think visiting in person would make any of that magically change.

Its fine to good, but incredible is a stretch
 
I’ve only seen photos but it does feel like simple single storey boxy buildings with a rock skin on them. Considering this is the same park that has a two storey medieval castle in it it’s a little disappointing in a way. More uniqueness between each building would be good, a faux thatched roof on the Hungry Troll for example so it looks more like a village area and less like some theme park buildings.
 
Visited the park for the first ever time on Thursday.
Thankfully queues weren't too bad so was able to go on everything I wanted easily enough.
Loved Flight Of The Skylion, a really fun all round experience. Even the pre loading video was well explained and had some humour to it.

Biggest issue I had with the park was the number of closed food options (the one by the dragon, a pastie shop, and the chicken place) just made trying to get something to eat a dispiriting task. (ended up with a panini from the coffee shop by the entrance). And even the open places were understaffed, got a milkshake from the new Ben and Jerry's and they had one person doing everything.

Lovely park, don't think I'd ever risk going at a weekend or during a school holidays.
 
I’m going back to Legoland on 29th July, and I was just wondering; if I were to pick one of Legoland’s two major water rides (Pirate Falls and Viking River Splash) to try and get on, which one would you guys recommend?

I only ask because we’re not planning to do loads of rides on the day we go; we’re planning to spend a bit of time looking through Miniland and at the various other Lego models as well. We got spurred to go back to Legoland after watching the documentary last summer, but ultimately didn’t end up going in 2020, and from that documentary and other knowledge, we’ve decided that the rides we’re eager to do on this visit are:
  • Flight of the Sky Lion
  • Haunted House Monster Party
  • Lego Ninjago: The Ride
  • Either Pirate Falls or Viking River Splash
You might wonder why I’m not doing any of the coasters. The reason for that is;
  • I already did Dragon on my visit in 2017, and while it was fun for what it was, don’t get me wrong, it’s not something I’d want to queue ages and ages for again over some of the more interesting non-coasters at Legoland that I haven’t done yet.
  • Given the inevitable embarrassment that riding either would likely entail, I don’t even really want to attempt to ride Dragon’s Apprentice or DUPLO Dino Coaster, if I’m being honest.
I’m looking forward to it; I’m hoping to gain a slightly fairer perspective on Legoland this time around with us being able to do more of what the park has to offer, and with my mum not being in an ankle cast/wheelchair this time, that removes a certain degree of stress for our group.
 
You could do both if you time it right. Viking River Splash can be practically walk on at around 3pm (crowds dependent). It's the only ride in the park with great capacity, and its location on the hill means that after the morning rush very few people are in that part of the park until the end of the day.
Pirate Falls on the other hand usually has a long queue. But it is the one I'd recommend out of the two (as VRS has had all the effects turned off).

I'd also recommend Atlantis if you haven't done it. That's my personal favourite.

Hydras Challenge is a really fun water ride as well. Probably worth heading back to Mythica during the last hour of the day as crowds will have started to leave the park and area.

I’ll keep that in mind, actually; I’d imagine Sky Lion’s queue might be less later in the day, as I can only assume that most will head to it first, what with it being the “new for 2021” attraction!

I have to admit I've considered getting a RAP at some points, but don't feel it'd be of too much benefit to me. I can cope in queues just about OK, especially if I've got someone to talk to (which is virtually always - I don't like going to parks on my own) in the queue, or I've got a puzzle book to keep me occupied, or if I've got my beloved hat-wearing penguin called Paddles with me. Hey, I like not being normal, OK? :p Sometimes, I do find queues frustrating, but it's not usually too often, and is normally if it doesn't move for ages with no idea as to what's going on. Other people struggle more than me, and it wouldn't be ethical for me to take a place in the RAP queue when someone who has greater need to use it would otherwise have to use the main queue.
