Legoland Windsor

Not theme park related, but we went to the Lego store in Copenhagen in the summer and I must say we were quite underwhelmed by it. It isn't that big (pretty sure the one at Legoland Windsor is bigger), was way too busy and way to expensive. Maybe it is because we aren't really that into Lego but we wouldn't be rushing to go back (just our opinion of course).

Is it bad that I, whose primary interests in life are Lego and theme parks (in that order), struggle to summon a fecal object to give about the Legoland parks? And I include the "Lego House" in that.

It's not really surprising when they aren't targeted at you. Even the LEGO House is more focused on build activities for kids (although I dare say you'd find the top floor (where they display the AFOL models) and the basement (the archive section) quite interesting.

However Diogo if that's a challenge I'd happily sit and discuss Miniland with you all day and I'd be surprised if you find nothing of it interesting 😉

I see it like this - Lego at its best is a true minifigure-scale model that you construct yourself and see all the secrets as you're building it. But at the Lego parks, you're not getting that. You're seeing large models made up of thousands of bricks, which is more like a sculpture than a toy.

However, I went to Windsor this year and it was way better than I expected. As a theme park fan, I was impressed with the quality of the coasters, even with things like legroom and smoothness. And Flight of the Sky Lion was amazing, I thought.

As a Lego fan, I enjoyed seeing the upscaled crab model in Deep Sea Adventure, my favourite theme brought to life in Pirates Cove, and walking around a giant Lego castle. Miniland was also incredible, even if you don't get to see into all the buildings. Basically, I was fairly sceptical before I'd visited, but I enjoyed it much more than I anticipated.

Legoland is low key one of the best UK theme parks imo.

Yes it's not great if you're a thrill seeker and it has plenty of Merlinism (terrible food and fast track hell) but for the demographic it has some very good rides, the theming is generally nice and thoughtful plus major benefit of being infinitely more weather proof than any other park. It's easily our most visited as a result of that.

Doesn't get much love from enthusiasts understandably. Hopefully they have some plans for the former Rapids site in the near future.

It's a great theme park but the removal or downgrade of the entertainment this year has really let it down. There are some great rides such as flight of the skylion, but again it's let down by the hideous queue times across the park meaning my kids who are lego mad no longer want to visit.

Hopefully as you've said there will be a replacement for the rapids soon that will add some much needed capacity to the park. It does feel like the recent investments have been on accommodation although we did get mini figure speedway last year. I'm pretty certain that the accommodation probably drives a huge part of their profit at £300+ a night so they probably are right to focus on it.

If you go by Google reviews it receives 4.1 stars compared to 4.4 at towers, 4.2 at Thorpe and 4.1 at chessington so it's on the lower end of satisfaction although much higher than where I would put it based on overall experience.
