Live music, gigs, and concerts discussion.

Fop fighters. Manchester old trafford cricket ground.

Not a bad I go out my way to listen to, can enjoy when I go to a gig. They do a good show.
Last was ok, I've seen better from them but still a decent set. Dave broke down doing a track (which in informed was a newer song about Taylor Hawkins)

Two support acts were poor. Chroma and Courtney Barratt.Got very little from the crowd. Especially chroma.

Enjoyable evening in Liverpool at the On The Waterfront Festival at the Pier Head. Conveniently a 5 minute walk from my office.

Started with 2 local bands Keyside and The Sway. Both enjoyable but having them on so soon after doors opened meant it wasn't much of a crowd.

Then came Republica, who I'd never realised were a British act. Got to tick the top Thrill Dragster theme tune aka Ready To Go off the list.

Then we got noughties indie band The View playing their hits, quite enjoyable.

Then the rest of the night went all a bit Brit pop. Starting with Embrace, a perfectly timed set as we got the last bits of sun of the evening before the rain started.

Then hometown heroes Cast led by Jon Power, surprisingly the first time I'd ever seen them live despite being a band I'd always enjoyed.

And the headliner Ocean Colour Scene, turns out I knew a surprising amount of their songs. Great live act!

So yeah, cracking late afternoon and evening.

Nice little intimate gig in the Jacaranda Baltic for me tonight seeing Kate Nash doing an album release show.

Feel like all gigs should be finished by 9pm.

Enjoyable trip to Manchester tonight to the summer venue the Castlefield Bowl. The opening gig of the sounds of the city gig being Avril Lavigne. Always enjoyed her punk pop styling since the first album but had never seen her before. Was a really fun gig with her playing basically all of the hits. Saw Simple Plan as the support act as well.

Great time at Wembley on Saturday night seeing Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Bands finishing their Summer 2024 European Tour.

Just over 3 hours of hits spanning his whole career. Was the 4th time I've seen him live and the first time since 2016. Hoping he's back again next year as I don't want to wait that long again.

Where were you seated/standing? I have a friend who saw him at Wembley on Thursday, who complained that the sound system was awful. He described it as "your neighbour's stereo turned up to 11, a few doors down" with lots of echo and reverberation.

He couldn't deny that the show was fantastic, as per usual, but was very disappointed that it sounded poor. He was in the cheap seats up in the gods, however.

Jack White announced a last minute bunch of UK gigs last week and I managed to get a ticket for the Liverpool show on Saturday. Can't wait!

Plenty of 2025 gigs going on sale now, in the last few days I've bought tickets to a number of Bruce Springsteen shows, and today a ticket for the Busted vs McFly tour.

Papa Roach as well.

Saw Geordie Greep at East Village Arts Club last month, and Magdalena Bay at Manchester Academy last week.

Was never on the Black Midi train and had only really half-heard Greep's new prog rock / jazz fusion / latino / incel satire concept album but went along anyway, and glad I did. Virtuoso stuff.

Thought I was going to miss Mag Bay but they got bumped up from a venue of about 200 people to the 1000+ Academy. Imaginal Disk is probably my favourite album of the year and they played it in full, along with some older stuff. They did have to rely on sequencers and tapes a bit so maybe now they're getting bigger they'll be able to pay for a third touring musician, but it was still really, really good.

Late to this thread. I work in the offices backing onto the cricket ground, and Chroma sounded awful from where I was sat.

Incidentally, on the same day - i went across town to the Co-Op for Weezer/Smashing Pumpkins. Big night for US bands who peaked in the 90s visiting Manc.

Probably my last gig of the year last night seeing Enter Shikari in Liverpool University. Great concert!

Vampire Weekend coming up on Wednesday.

I don't usually spoiler setlests before I go but I did and this seems mental. They are doing some mammoth gigs knocking out loads of their own bangers, then a huge encore of covers...

So dfferent every night. This screams of a band just having fun and it has made me so much more excited for what we might get...

My last, last, (probably last), gig of the year was seeing The Darkness doing an in store gig at Rough Trade in Liverpool in the 400 capacity venue.

A really fun thirty minutes of them playing songs off their next album that comes out next March.
