Mitch Hawker coaster polls 2012-13

Apollo's Chariot is just really enjoyable. It has some fantastic airtime, a great first drop and it flows really well. It was almost perfectly well rounded to me so I suppose that's why it is at my number 1 spot. Though El Toro and I305 are very very strong challenges to that spot.

As for Oz'Iris, in April it was phenomenal. It will be interesting to ride it again though to see how much it has changed since it first opened. Blue Fire is very unfortunate not to be in my top 10 as I enjoyed it so much!

I think you just got lucky with Oz'Iris. Saying that, it had an interesting layout and the first drop was great.

I have to say I thought Manta would have been higher for you, also (another ride I am not a fan of!!)

3 Busch Gardens VA coasters in your top 10 though, Rob? Who'd ever have imagined :D

Bizarro (clone of Scream!) above Mamba? It was terrible I thought! Flight of Fear so high also seems curious, though I've never been on it.

Your top five coasters are all from the same trip. I'm not having a go at you or anything, just wanting to ask an honest question. Do you think your good memories of the trip itself has slightly distorted your rankings, or is their placement together just a coincidence? I know that's happened with me and a few of the less renowned EP coasters, so I'm just wondering what you think! :p
 
I think to compile a truly accurate list I would need to return to Florida. I didn't go on the coasters there that many times so my memories of them are a little faded. That's probably why a lot of the other coasters in the States that I went on in 2011 are ranked about the Florida ones.

Manta has indeed fallen from the top of my list though, I possibly over hyped it slightly back when I rode it! It may go up again whenever I get to ride it again though.

Are you trying to call me a BGW fanboy? ;) I may be slightly biassed to their coasters! Loch Ness Monster is probably higher than it should be in 33rd place! :p

Flight of Fear took both myself and Russell by surprise, it was much much better than we expected! And I found Bizarro really good fun.

As for my top 5, I genuinely do feel that they are my top 5 from my memories of all the coasters I have been on. Apollo's Chariot as I said is fun, airtime filled and well rounded. El Toro is just immense. I305 is crazy and I fell in love with it at the time. Kingda Ka is there for the pure speed and thrill, it is just astonishing. And Alpy (as I like to call her :p), well I have a soft spot for big tall B&M Inverts and she's the biggest of the lot, the drop on the front row is something else!

EDIT: Another point regarding Kingda Ka. I think if I was to ride it on a more regular basis it would not be ranked quite so highly. It's one of those experience that is incredible when you first ride. The second time was just as good. But I'd imagine if it was say at Towers and you're riding it over 40 times a season the feeling would become a bit samey therefore it wouldn't have quite the same impact. That is of course an assumption though.

The TST poll is really shaping up well now - I haven't added Rob's ballot in yet but the current top 5 are all very close and a lot of mutual rider comparisons are being led by a single vote so there's a real chance of a major shake up to the results as the ballots come in.

There are some very interesting battles going on slightly further down the rankings too - Raptor (Gardaland) Vs The Swarm is proving to be extremely close for example. The fight for the wooden spoon is also fierce - what will be crowned as the ride we most love to hate?

Including the ballots from TTF and CPBE (there's been one from both) we now have 21 in total - not bad but still a few short on 2010. Even if you've not been on very many coasters your opinions can still influence the outcome (both here and on the full poll) so get your entries in - there's 2 weeks left before the poll closes.

Really happy to see two more people brave enough to (correctly) put Nemesis as their No. 1, rather than the most obscure coaster they've been on just to show off that they've been abroad. :)
 
Thats such an odd agenda to have isn't it? "I'm going to be individual by not putting Nemesis as my number one, instead choosing Senzafiato because no one has ridden it or even heard of it"
 
Spent ages doing this over the past two nights, and still not 100% certain I'm happy with the order... (plus I missed out favourite woodie... gah...)

As with most people, I'm sure that if I did it again in a few days it'd be subtly different.

In terms of the UK, apparently The Swarm is our 2nd best!!

Every year I see this poll I think I must be on another planet. :/

Expedition GeForce is great... but top spot... again?! I must have missed something.

Glad to see iSpeed has moved up to #8, it is an awesome coaster ;D surprised to see Nemesis drop so much though, Katun is a brilliant ride, but its certainly not as good as Nemesis.
 
I think there's many coasters near the top that are new, so would be fresh and ridden recently. For example, for however good Shambhala looks, I can't understand how it's 11 places ahead of the nearest B&M hyper coaster, when they all provide almost the same riding experience. And for Skyrush, I can't understand how it's below a mega-lite coaster, when they are almost the same thing but Skyrush has more air-time, more interesting elements and a special floorless car. If it's to do with the dodgy restraints, that's terrible, because I can't imagine they're worse than those on the other Intamins. Also, why is there such a considerable difference between the mega-lite coasters. Should they not be classed as a model like the other models?

And how Nemesis is below Katun, I can't really understand. Montu, I could probably understand, but Katun just looks like a standard B&M inverted coaster scaled up.

I'm really disappointed in this poll.
