My Love of Nemesis

Bear said:
If they could fix that random jolt in the zero-g roll, that'd be amazing. It bugs me every time I go on it that I have to remember to brace for that bit or risk a jaw bashing!

Probably a very difficult fix, IIRC it was down to one of the diagonal supports slightly sinking into the ground at the bottom of the pit.

Don't get me wrong, I love Nemesis. Without a doubt it's my favourite ride on park and my favourite ride in the UK. It even goes on to being my second favourite ride in the world behind Manta. But I can't ride it anymore feeling the same thing I felt on my first couple of goes. It's as if the magic that was there when I first rode, has gone. I don't ride it for the tension, or even for the excitement anymore. I simply feel like I'm riding it for credit and only emerge down the exit ramp with a small burst of adrenalin, compared to my first go where I was breathless and speechless for up to an hour. Maybe there's something wrong with me...

Danny I started to get a bit like that, that's why I made the post. It took witnessing the experience of new riders, to remind of what it was about Nemmy that I loved so much before.

I still loved the ride and what it stood for, take some newbies on it mate, that's all I can say.

I kinda stood back again, and began to observe it.

there is a slight jolt on the zero-G. but as it only one, I like it. its a bit like she giving you a great run then decides to shout BOO at you. just to keep you on your toes :)

as for nemmychic description of nemesis, i think it need to go in a section call coaster porn. due to the fact as i was reading it, i have the over powering urge to run of to alton for run Nemesis.

Thank you so much delta79 :) ......I glad i have done some justice to her :) She is after all an amazing ride one of which I will never tire of riding hope she is still standing when I am old and grey !! hehe

Ah, good ol' Nemmy! <3
That beauty of a coaster is just amazing. Every bit of it! Queue line has brilliant theming, station will scare any new rider! You really can't prepare yourself for your first ride on Nemmy.
For me, I saw it (as a 10 year old) and was petrified. I didn't go on it that trip. But when I convinced myself to ride Nemmy, I was in love.
Zero-g roll doesn't bother me, tbh. Favourite inversion: the first corckscrew <3 She was my favourite until I got on Blivvy! =P

I Love Nemmy <3

Ledts not forget guys she is doing well for her age she is bound to get a little rougher....but for me that adds to the ride :) she roughs me up and blags my head I love it !!!

18 yrs old after all :p

We always head to Nemesis first whenever we go there.. get at least 3 rides in while the queue is nothing..
This year at scarefest I ended up with a bruised Eye though where I smacked my face on the restraints!! My poor boyfriend was worried people would think he gave me a clout lol
This really is such a fantastic ride.. and we always want to ride at the back!! It still makes my heart leap being pulled over that loop!!
Love it!!

Lovely posts everyone :)

It is amazing that a ride can still invoke this kind of emotion.

I'm another of those that, when it comes to Nemesis, just doesn't really 'get it' in terms of the enthusiast hype for the ride. It's good, I'll give it that, but even by Alton Towers standards I don't view it as being particularly exceptional. There are positive aspects to it, and there are negative aspects, just as with every other ride at the park.

Obviously, I utterly adore the way that it's landscaped; the blood river, the pit, the 'viewing areas' inside and outside the queue line which mean that the ride interacts so well with its surroundings, and builds up an atmosphere. Aesthetically, it's sound. The music, equally, is a masterpiece and one of the best used throughout the park... I adore watching the ride, being near the ride, more than any other coaster (possible exception - Oblivion).

But in terms of the actual ride experience I find it hard to enjoy. It's too jolty and too rough, heck, possibly even too intense for me to even truly enjoy a ride on it. My interest in theme parks is such that I'll take a good experience ride over something which gives me a pounding headache every single time. The likes of Hex (experience), Air ('fun' rollercoaster) and Congo River Rapids (group ride) are what made me an enthusiast, as opposed to intensity such as Nemesis.

So... yeah. I do love Nemesis, honestly. But for me it's more about the atmosphere than the ride itself, which I'm indifferent to at best. :)

If you find Nemesis too rough, then I think it goes without saying you should never venture up to BPB! There's not a coaster there that's smoother than Nemesis ;)

I live Nemmy! Its such a unique coaster, and there's no other ride at AT that can gives the effect that she's gives.
It seems ages ago, But I first rode her on 6th July 2011. After Rita and Thirteen, I was inmpressed, but just didn't get the feeling that I thought I'd get. However at the site of Nemmy I knew that wouls change: Her roar; The screams; The theming- I fell in love.
Being 11, I was terrified! But I had to do it!
However I do feel roughness on parts of the ride. I've banged my head a few times, and once came off with a nosebleed. But in 30+ rides, I can't really fault.
Woo my 100th post ;)

I wouldn't say I love Nemesis, the word 'appreciation' is much closer for me.

I respect Nemesis for the impact it's had on the theme park industry with an admiration for the heritage and rather gorgeous aesthetics. As for the ride experience, it sadly loses points for me as a coaster I can love due to the intensity and I struggle on multiple occasions to tolerate it.

I understand that people love it and how it is special, that the ride experience is their idea of fun, but it just isn't for me... *Backs away slowly whilst holding the Th13teen mug*

Eh. I would agree with that comment... I don't like Blackpool Pleasure Beach. :p
