What a strange title, when I consider the first time I saw this ride back in the mid 90s. The last thing I was thinking was, wow, I love this machine.
Fast forward a few years, throw in some frustration at AT, a lack of anything truly brilliant since Oblivion, and let's face it, it's a ride I just started to take for granted.
This year however, was the first time in many years, I'd taken new people on it. Two younger folks, pretty new to coasters overall, who were absolutely terrified watching her whizz past in the dim evening Scarefest sky.
The rush of feet flying past, the metal stairs, the deep music, the industrial station, the moving floor, the alien frightening exterior - all stuff that to me, was normal - this is Nemesis, we know her well, most of us are more prone to hugging her! She is after all, beautiful.
So, I take these two youngsters aboard (one had just ridden before, first time, front row, terrified initially but wanting to go straight back on lol) - their faces terrified, only to hear a voice from the row behind of a fellow Dad who was not a fan of coasters, spurred on by his daughters bravery, locking down that support!
30 odd exhilarating seconds later, we hit the brake run, and what do I see? Smiles. HUGE unmitigated joy and pride. I hear laughing, and it brought back that memory of why this ride really is such a special, watershed moment in UK coaster history.
It challenges you, but rewards you with such a unique experience.
No coaster in the world is like her, and I once again fell in love with the old girl.
Will we ever see such a development, that is capable of so much, in such a small footprint ever again in this Country, or was Nemmy simply one of those one off moments, of pure genius?
It's ironic in a year where I noticed so much wrong with AT as a whole, that I remembered everything that is so right about their still star attraction.
