Oblivion: General Discussion

It's holding on the drop for longer, certainly, you can see that in vlogs I've seen. As for the audio, I have no idea.

Few people on twitter say they’ve been told the noise order which prevented the “don’t look down” audio has now expired and the speakers are now fixed? Could be nonsense but something to keep an eye on.
Is it holding at the edge longer?
Honestly, whilst I love to be wrong and have the audio return... If it did return, I think they'd be taken to court again.

Yeah, they originally successfully got a high court injunction, were not satisfied with that, so subsequently almost bankrupted themselves chasing the park up until about 2011, at which point they moved out of the area.
That's... Good to know.

But back on topic of Oblivion, it would be nice to have the audio return and have AT increase the hold time to add that bit of suspense before plunging down into... Oblivion.

I'll see myself out

not too surprised, but this is good, the current baggage problem means that trains are sat on the brake run for a long time (the problem is due to the width of the cars and narrow walkwar on the cars, combines with the position of the baggage bays it means it takes a while for people to first get over the car to then push through a crowd to place their bag, then go back through the crowd and move their way along the car before they can check restrains adding a long time to dispach, only good way I could think of to fix it would be a bag hold, but that would require essentially a queue and exit re route)

The speakers just before the holding brake are definitely working. Something came through during my ride last weekend along the lines of “….appreciate your participation/co-operation(?)”. It was definitely not something I’ve heard before.

Would be great if it was brought back.

Sounds like the back end of the "Attention! Mobile phones and cameras are strictly forbidden whilst riding Oblivion" announcement.

Nobody seems to have mentioned it yet - when I was there last weekend it definitely looked like the station had had a deep clean - I remember it last year being caked in cobwebs and grot, everything seemed a lot cleaner. I didn't pay attention to the queue line though as it was pretty much walk on.

I have a confession to make.

Until I read on this very forum, some years ago. I hadn't noticed that it was no longer there. In a my head, I heard when I went to the park that week. Mandela affect?

As a 40 year old. I love the theme. It reminds me of how it was when I was young. It so often it's time it's incredible. I understand how much that has now aged. The millennium was 25 years ago and that way design has, long gone. Oblivion to me would have spikey, frosted tips hair and still trying to pull it off

The Ride Times website is saying that Oblivion is currently not operating, due to a weather delay (see screenshot attached).

I am surprised that most other rides are running (except The Smiler) but yet Oblivion isn't, because I wouldn't have thought that this was a ride that was likely to roll back, due to how quickly it drops (and also how short the the subsequent track is).

This got me thinking: what would happen if the train rolled back into the hole, for some reason?

I assume that there is a way to safely evacuate riders from underground?

P.S. If Oblivion was to ever be retracked, then I assume that it would be a bit pricey to remove and refill all of the surrounding concrete? Although perhaps the overall cost of the job wouldn't be that much, due to how little track there is! (compared to, say, Nemesis)

It did reopen with Smiler for a brief moment, but both went down fairly quickly again, so I assume the water issue has been fixed and it is actually the weather that's the problem. Has been fairly windy today.

Oblivion can have weather delays due to wind when other rides are fine.

As for rolling back, the only thing that could cause it would be a major wheel assembly failure which is almost impossible.

You can get into the hole at either end of tunnel but it wouldn’t be an easy job.
