Paultons Park: General Discussion

I believe Kobra and Edge will be closed from September until April. Unless I'm wrong, but that's what I remember the park confirming publicly. So if that information is anything to go by at all, then both rides will be rethemes as part of Vikings.
That's what I'm under the impression is happening

Both rides are still fairly new systems despite one being SBF Visa

Cobra is a Gerst and T'Edge is Zamperla. Presumably you mean Magma being a SBF.

Cobra and T'Edge are 20 years old (21 for Cobra). Where does the time go?
I was referring to Edge and Magma. Magma is 13 years old and is the SBF. It's the newest out of the lot with rumours of closure going about recently.

Cobra hasn't been rumoured to be removed apart from a RCDB posting saying it's going to be closing on a certain date which is no longer there

Cobra is 19 years old and Edge is 16 years old at the time of writing.

According to the park, Magma and Cobra are closed from September until end of next April at the earliest.

Edge is due to reopen next March (at least according to their availability page) although how that will work is anyones guess! Assume it's a mistake and Edge will be closed as well.

Of course, that doesn't stop any being removed, although last I've heard, it's only Magma that's going.

That is a rumour I've heard from different people on different forums without any definite proof. I'd be surprised if Paultons removed newer hardware even if it's SBF Visa.

I wonder if they’ll move Magma to Lost Kingdom.
That could be a logical possibility

Think with Magma it's kinda redundant with them have 2 other drop towers in Tornado Springs.

Maybe an intamin drop Tower would be a cool fit possible similar height to Apocalypse

If I’m not mistaken, I think Paultons might potentially be height restricted (do correct me if I’m wrong there), so I’m not sure on the feasibility of them building a ~180ft drop tower.

Besides, that is arguably quite a big step up in thrill from anything they currently have, albeit admittedly a lower risk step up than an extreme thrill coaster. Paultons strikes me as the sort of park that prefers incremental steps up in thrill (and I currently expect this to continue with the 2026 project, hence my personal prediction of an Intamin Hot Racer), whereas an Apocalypse-sized drop tower would be a properly extreme ride; there’s a reason why Apocalypse was billed as “the UK’s scariest ride” when it operated!

If Paultons did get a more thrilling drop tower, I would expect something more along the lines of Detonator at Thorpe or Venom at WMSP in terms of height, or perhaps even shorter than that.

I don't think it's a height restriction as such it's just that anything above a certain height would need planning permission. In the absence of this I'd wouldn't expect anything much taller than Storm Chaser or Magma
I’d imagine they’re covered by the same GDO rights as many UK parks, wherein they can build without permission up to a height of 25m (82ft).

It’s above that that I wasn’t sure about. The site is green belt, is it not?

On CoasterForce, some eagle-eyed members have identified that some of the footers seem to match up very nicely with parts of some stock Hot Racer layouts on Intamin’s website, as well as that the footers seem to match Intamin footers used on rides like Juvelen and Mahuka: https://coasterforce.com/forums/threads/new-attractions-at-paultons-park.45593/page-29#post-1186031

I’m still pretty convinced that it could be an Intamin Hot Racer at this point! To me, it seems like the most likely option based on what we know and what we can see.

Gerstlauer, as suggested by the Twitter post @Bowser shared above, would admittedly explain why Lawrence Mancey said that “no one [had] guessed the manufacturer”, as until recently, I hadn’t seen anyone seriously predicting Gerstlauer… but then again, he also said that Paultons had “no medium term plans for on-site accommodation”, as @GooseOnTheLoose likes to remind us, so who knows, really?

Lawrence Mancey said that “no one [had] guessed the manufacturer”, as until recently,

This keeps being mentioned like it means anything at all. He has no idea what has been guessed across scores of forums and Facebook posts all over the Internet. How could he? At the very most it could be hinting at something less common so less guessable.

I could be reading way too much into this but I'm failing to see how a hot racer and a viking theme go hand in hand?

I know what I'd like to see, and I've said it for a long time, duelling woodie, one side more thrilling one side more family, however I don't think this is what's happening here, although it would be great with the Viking theme.
I have a few predictions on manufacturer more than anything:
Mack - Paulton's have used Mack a lot recently, Mack could produce a very custom model, and we know they're good at designing rides around close clearances with other coasters (Look at Icon as an example). I also think there are plenty of family-thrill coasters with inversions that Mack have produced.
Vekoma - Paulton's have used them before, they're cheap, reliable and have an expanding portfolio. I would be shocked if they weren't at least considered.
Zierer - Paulton's have used Zierer a few times, and already have a few coasters. Zierer are rather underrated in my opinion and they're able to do far more than they are often given chance to produce. I mention them because they certainly could produce a family focused thrilling coaster with an inversion. Wicked at Lagoon in the US, has a really thrilling layout but has booster seats that allow shorter riders to ride. I imagine a custom layout could be produced that wouldn't be too much for Paultons audience.
I know a lot of people have mentioned various models from Intamin and I am by no means ruling this out but I wanted to throw a few different ideas about.
