Pet Hates

There are so many inherent design issues with estate building in the UK. The police insist that new developments consist mostly of cul-de-sacs and abhor through roads, claiming a belief that the former deters crime and that the latter prevents it.

They're often built out of town, without local amenities and are bereft of local transport options, forcing a car culture which makes it difficult to traverse by foot.

I can see my local pub from my garden. As the goose flies it is about 150 metres away. However, I live at the bottom of a "close". According to Google Maps, the waddle to the pub is just under one mile and takes 18 minutes. My local Co-Op is next to the pub, the waddle being the same length and time.

Poor planning is honestly one of the most frustrating things about living in this country.

Yeah. They could do with bringing in a law that for new builds there is adequate off-road parking and wider streets. The house building companies wouldn't be happy obviously, and it wouldn't help Labour get to their target of building however many houses it is during their parliament. But you know what? We managed to build these kinds of estates 50/60 years ago so they could do it now if the will was there.

Exactly, those housing are now in demand. The new souless estates. Big houses l, no parking, garden and storage built in.
