Phantasialand: General Discussion

Was going to say in all my visits to the park it has never occurred to me to go see a show.

Last time I visited (2022) they were opening Black Mamba at 9.30am so I'd go for that first and then join the queue for Taron.

How intense is Mystery Tower?

My son absolutely loves Croc Drop at Chessington and Tower of Terror at DLP but when we did Detonator at Thorpe Park recently he got upset. May have been other factors but it was certainly notably more intense.

I loath drop towers...
Mystery Castle is the launchy / floaty / bouncy kind though! :D Less intense than Thirteen. Hardly even notice you are moving in the dark.
EDIT TO ADD:
I meant that as a positive, before anyone thinks otherwise. ;)

Sounds like he likes that layer of protection with walls surrounding him. He'll be absolutely fine I reckon. Plus just day you didn't know what was in the "mystery" castle of it backfires 😂

I went in 2019 so I think the shows have changed since then but the bike and skateboard stunt and breakdancing show was pretty good, didn’t regret seeing it. No idea if that is still on though! Also the Chinese circus was fine, enough for a break after eating.

No it's not that, he likes other such as the Croc Drop clone in Southend which doesn't have the walls so i'm almost positive it was the intensity. I was a bit surprised by it too tbh. Although might have been the cycle as Detonator is literally one drop whereas all the others are up and down.

I remember the audio being quite intense - I don’t think the speakers where the highest quality and being pushed to their limits with the volume it seems, creating this pretty awful racket if memory serves.

I know you didn’t say anything about your son being sensitive to intense noises, but I do remember it being quite notable for me, of course, this is all a just-in-case.

Thanks. No he very much is but wears ear defenders which are typically (and hopefully) allowed on that ride type.

I wouldn’t be overly surprised if they disallow them - contrary to what others are saying, I’d very very much put mystery castle towards the upper end of drop tower intensity. You re very much shot up and down with a fair bit of force (though being in the dark greatly adds to the illusion of it being more forceful).

Also on a couple of occasions I’ve been asked to remove banded glasses, so again I wouldn’t count on ear defenders being allowed.

I’ll admit I’m surprised that your son didn’t like Detonator, but did like Tower of Terror @Bowser.

If the one in Florida is anything to go by, I would have said that Tower of Terror was probably the most intense and airtime-filled drop tower I’ve ridden. The unrestrained airtime on there is wild, and it’s probably my favourite non-coaster attraction ever for that reason!

Are you aware of what he didn’t like about Detonator?

Detonator literally fires you towards the ground with pistons for extra intensity. Mystery Castle, meanwhile, is 'controlled', and more like a massive version of Croc Drop. It’s a rush, but not physically intense.

Might be worth noting that it's very noisy in the tower during the ride, though.

The rams on Detonator are long gone.

I'd be very surprised if they allow ear defenders on the ride. Get ear plugs or be prepared to do without would be my suggestion.

We've only been on Tower of Terror in Paris so i can't compare but it was definitely one of his (and my) all time favourite rides. Airtime is good so i only have the intensity of Detonator or possibly the shortness as being what he disliked but if it was the latter i think he would have wanted to go on again.

As @DiogoJ42 said, launchy, floaty and bouncy are all positives!

I'd be very surprised if they allow ear defenders on the ride.

We've yet to be on a tower that doesn't allow them but i appreciate the fact that it's both in the dark and in Germany will be factors going against us.

You're still bitter about our deal all those years ago, aren't you mate? ;)

He agreed to ride Talocan, if I agreed to ride Mystery Castle. One of us was pleasantly surprised.... One of us turned green. 🤣
