Phantasialand: General Discussion

And from Duron on PhantaFriends.de a look at the repainting of the park's admin offices to match the rust aesthetic of the hotel entrance portal beside.

I know it's difficult for them with space, but the way that Matamba and this new hotel just sort of exit onto the road.

It's a real pity.

I don't really like this rust thing going onto the entrance area/offices. Just looks a bit naff.

With this hotel they could have completely redone the awful entrance (in fact they could have even incorporated it better) instead they seem to just be painting over the awful outdated entrance in rusty brown.

Seems a wasted opportunity.

This is the office building being repainted. The park entrance has not been touched. If anything happens further along there that remains to be seen. But since that its not really near the hotel entrance I'm guessing not.

Nevertheless long term the park are still keeping their fingers crossed (perhaps misplaced optimism after all this time it could be argued) for their expansion plans to get the go ahead which would see the Berlin removed and replaced/relocated along with those offices. Therefore the reluctance to spend on it presumably persists, hence the simple repaint of the offices opposed to a retheme or even using actual Corten steel like the new hotel facade itself.

It's really not that bad. It's just a bit odd painting up the offices instead of facading it, but if it means more saved for the actual ride Im all for it.

Plenty things at other parks come to mind as "grave mistakes" but a slightly strange entrance is way down the bottom of the list

The theme looks like it fits right in the park's style and adds another colour to the park

Every time I see a new update at the moment I am getting less and less excited for Rookburgh. Initially I thought that steam punk would be a brilliant theme for them to do, but from the albeit little we have seen so far I am not at all convinced. The hotel is not looking that much more appealing that Thorpe's Shark Hotel!

The positive of this though is that with lower expectations, the finished area may actually surprise me!

Most of it looks great, however I’m unsure on the colouring and placements near the entrance area. Hopefully that will be the next to be looked into as it feels underwhelming compared to the rest of the park.

This "bright orange intentionally rusty metal" look is a very recent fad, and certainly does NOT fit a "Victorian" or "steampunk" theme. I see it everywhere on bridges and skyscrapers in the Stratford Olympic park area.

... It's revolting.

Thing is, there may be a dozen other parks where you could point at and give an example of something worse than this.

But this is Phantasialand we are talking about. They have a track record of adding pretty much the most immersive areas in Europe. When something doesn't look right, it stands out even more.

I have absolutely every confidence the area will live up to their usual standards. For whatever reason the hotel entrance seems to be lacking at the moment, it can easily be countered with the addition of more detailing such as pipes and perhaps an animatronic gear or two.

That's very true but I suppose to me it doesn't stick out as much as others are saying. Cant really tell until see the finished thing but the rusty style doesnt look ugly to me, it looks done in a colourful way. Apart from repainting the office next door instead of a simple facade
