Phantasialand: General Discussion

PL queues over today and the weekend have been heavy. Summer holidays norm but also a very long ticket promotion (if you're on the email lists your attest to that, feels like an email every week offering discount tickets) has swelled attendance. I'm heading there this weekend. 60/70 min queues nothing out of the ordinary but someone on X said last week 100min queues were a thing. Assuming the ops are more Alton than Europa? Or do queue lines move quick is just they are very long. Heard FLY line is a long one for example

Operations are nowhere near Europa standards unfortunately . Would agree that they’re more akin to Towers, albeit with better ride availability

Probably not news but....

Phantasialand visitors beware: a notorious attraction with cult status is closed. The German theme park is warning online that the Chinese ghost dark ride, Geister Rikscha, is currently out of service. Closures and renovations are common, but this case immediately sets alarm bells ringing for fans.

Geister Rikscha is one of Phantasialand's oldest attractions, and the park is known for regularly closing and demolishing classics without prior notice.

The park website literally states it is for maintenance work and a park spokesperson has commented to the local press:
The work is necessary to make the attraction available to experience again for our guests as soon as possible and to ensure smooth operation. Currently, it is not yet possible to estimate exactly when Geister Ricksha will reopen

Important to keep in mind it is a more than 40 year old ride system from a long defunct manufacturer. Spare parts are not exactly easy to come by.
Other than Hollywood Tour due to the major water damage incident during covid; permanent PHL ride closures always come with some kind of farewell rides from staff. While Geister just went down with technical issues it seems.

Geister is a strange one for me, its that quirky old ride that exists around newer/modern Phantasialand which mostly comprises richly themed lands.

Unlike the (now closed) Hollywood ride, it still kind-of fitted into the park’s identity but is starting to look very dated now. I Last rode it last January and must admit the ride was in worser state, compared to 5 years ago.

Ideally it needs a major retheme update. However this is Phantasialand , so they are far more likely to bulldoze most of the China area and build a brand new dark ride in it‘s place. Maybe they could also remove Feng Ju Palace and replace it with a Danse Macabre style dark ride/attraction too.

Geister would be improved by simply closing it. One of the few rides in parks that makes the place worse by existing.
Have to disagree with you on this one. It’s not very good and think it should be replaced by something better, but it’s not exactly an eyesore (in fact, it’s a bit blink-and-you-miss-it when walking past). Having it removed with no replacement would mean one less thing to do when it’s raining, and losing something that doesn’t ever really get a queue even on busy days.

I think a heavy retheme would sort it out, maybe even swapping the transport system if they don't want to demolish everything to replace it.

I think the entrance is very cool. You walk in, and it is cramped, dark, and sets a great tone.

And then the ride starts…

Finishing touches are being put on the former Schauspielhaus which was home to Pirates 4D and construction fences are being taken away. The newly named Residenz Theatre (which was the name of an actual Berlin theatre in the time period) looks not too far away from opening. Pictures from Phantafriends.de

All the fencing has been removed from the entrance and permanent posts set into the ground for queuing. Only the exit is still fenced off otherwise all the exterior work is done and open.

Chris the head of park operations even shared a picture of the entrance today in an unusual move as they don't share or comment on work in progress stuff normally.

All points to opening very soon.

Looopings did some digging into the source code of the Phantasialand app - which showed Pirates in 4D's profile was not completely removed, just hidden from the user interface and some of the details have been edited recently.

A minimum height has been added of 90cm when accompanied by an adult or 1.2m without an adult.
The classification has also been changed from "show" to "family attraction".

Since this was discovered a few days ago online the entire entry has been removed from the source code.

4D cinemas rarely have height restrictions so it is interesting that whatever this "new 4D experience" will entail does.

With our trip a few weeks away I have a few rather specific questions hopefully someone can help with...

1. We'll get a taxi from the airport, can we get dropped directly at Hotel Ling Bao or do we just go to the park entrance and walk from there?

2. Estimate we'll arrive around 3pm (though Ryanair so not relying on that) so hopefully get a couple of hours in the park. What's the best way to approach dinner? Bowser Jr has a very limited palette so generally pizza or bread based food is a safe option for day one. Is it better to eat in the park itself? The hotels all seem to be higher end food which i'm sure is delightful but probably not going to suit our needs. Or perhaps room service is an option?
