Picsolve Enters Administration

Slightly related - on the Alton Towers FAQs

I bought an Annual / Season Digipass for ride photos – what will happen to that?

We are in contact with Picsolve and other alternative photography providers. We hope to have a solution in place before the Resort reopens and we will update our website with information for Annual / Season Digipass holders as soon as we can.

Legally merlin don't have to do a single thing for digipass holders, it's not a merlin product.
I suspect if the new operator doesn't have access to the digipass database you will have to pop to a photo point to get them to register your printed digipass on the system, and of you lost your digipass you are out of luck.

I suspect they'll have a PR nightmare if they don't ensure some sort of continuity. The passes are overtly branded as official theme park items, I don't think it's fair to expect the general public to see a differentiation.

To my mind, it's quite likely that Picsolve negotiates a significant discount on their contract/s and continues pretty much as was, perhaps with some kind of debt for equity swap.

That's quite possible that it goes that way.
IL admit my hate for the company does tip me towards Hoping it goes kaput with it being split apart.

Either way I don't think it will have any customer facing impact apart from maybe a new website.

If you buy a digipass at the same time as a ticket or annual/season pass, I assume the money goes to Alton Towers / Merlin as they are providing everyhting in the same basket at checkout? In this case, would the money be passed straight to PicSolve or kept by Alton Towers until redemption?

If the digipass was paid for at the same time as tickets I could see Alton Towers needing to offer something in its place.

I suppose you could argue when buying one online and not in person that merlin are acting as resellers meaning in effect they are the ones selling.

Anyone familiar with administration know if this is part of the process or have they just been rescued?
The documents show as processing so about 5 days till we can see them.

Hundreds of jobs saved as attraction tech firm sold

More than 600 jobs have been saved after a Derby company which creates technology for attractions at the likes of Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, the London Eye and major venues in the US and China was sold out of administration.

Deloitte has confirmed the sale of the business and assets of Picsolve International to PomVom UK Ltd, a newly incorporated entity wholly owned by PomVom Ltd.

PomVom is an advanced artificial intelligence technology company that creates real-time digital photography experience in amusement parks, events and sports.

The sale means that all 607 permanent employees at Picsolve will transfer to the new owners, along with 35 sites based across the UK and Europe.

Joint administrator Matt Cowlishaw said: "We are really pleased to announce the successful sale to Pomvom. The combination of technologies should provide a compelling offering in the market. We would like to thank all of the Company’s employees for their continued support and we wish the new owners every success for the future."

Looking at the purchasing companies website, it seems they do a little more than just take photos. As a benefit to the operator they claim to also be able to provide analytics including:

Because that isn't a bit concerning.
The model of security cctv around the whole of AT has the ability to do the same, whether they use that feature or not is unknown.

Picsolve's stack is heavily AWS based, so it would be extremely easy to use AWS Rekognition (not a typo) to do analysis of images and a combination of of the 20 or so big data services Amazon offers to do what their new overlords do
