PortAventura: General Discussion

Stampida is horrid. Layout decent, the CCI and KumbaK combo is something out of a horror film.
I was expecting it to be brutally rough from what I’d heard but I didn’t find it that bad considering. Mind you seeing as I’d already done Dragon Khan and Furious Backache that day it probably seemed like a blessing to ride something that was just plain old rough rather than feeling like something that was violently concussion inducing.

GCI retracked substantial sections of Stampida over a couple of years. It didn’t make much difference since the rolling stock is absolutely horrid.

Rather bizarre that they spent all that money on the retrack and yet didn’t change the trains, which are the ride’s single biggest problem.

My guess would be the track work was essential but the trains aren't yet, it's still somehow popular so I don't think they care as long as it passes safety.

Does anyone know if the fireworks show FiestaAventura is running this year?

I can see the page on the website but there's no show times coming up at all for it?

Not sure why it's not on the website but it's listed on the Portaventura app as starting at 22:45pm tonight so defo still running!

Stampida’s an underrated ride in my mind. Without going into spoilers, it’s a combination of a clever layout and an inspired use of tunnels. I have to admit, I didn’t actually know how it was done until I Googled an aerial photo.

Just got back to my hotel from my 1st visit.

Jeez there is some.rough coasters there..... managed a front row on Baco (rough as hell and short in length)

Dragon Khan (front row) still a head banger.

Uncharted ( this surprised me and enjoyed this for what it does)

Shambhala (damn its tall and smooth)

Devils mine train thingy (sorry couldn't remember the name... rough hell on the back)

Stampeda ( I thought grand national was bad but this is on a whole new level for a woodie)

I'd heard some people rave about Portadventura and I left feeling like "i still rank Alton Towers higher as a park"

Still managed to boost my coaster count but I don't know, I left feeling a little underwhelmed.

I know different people like different parks which is fine. But this park just didn't click with me. I'm glad that I went but I don't know can't really explain how it made me feel.

PortAventura to me is a park with some excellent rides, some so and they’re good rides, but most importantly it’s the filler rides and incredibly high quality entertainments that make it a great resort.

It’s not a park just for coasters as there’s not many big hitters, so if that’s your goal (or if you treat it like towers where you run from one big ride to the next) you kind of miss the point of the whole place

Completely agreed with this -- I definitely didn't leave my visit this year feeling that the park underwhelmed me. As a whole package I found it fantastic, and the theming is throughout absolutely incredible (barring the interior of Uncharted).

I'm visiting PortAventura for my first ever time with my parents in September. I'm interested to see what the park is like, particularly compared to Europa Park, which me and my parents visited and absolutely loved in 2022.

I'm most looking forward to Shambhala and Red Force in terms of the resort's main headliners. I absolutely love a B&M Hyper Coaster (the two B&M Hypers I've currently ridden, Mako and Silver Star, are both in my top 3), and I've often heard that Shambhala is the best one! In terms of Red Force, I do love Stealth, so I'm interested to see what a model that's nearly double the height, nearly 50% faster and with lap bars and an LSM launch is like!

I am also interested to see what my thoughts are on the ever-polarising Furius Baco; I've heard it's quite rough, so as someone with a reasonably low roughness tolerance, my expectations are not particularly high, but the ride certainly has its fair share of fans, and I'm open to surprises!

In general, though, I'm looking forward to going to another park that has a broad variety of attractions and is just a generally nice place to be in. One of the main things I loved about Europa Park was that the sublime headline coasters were backed up by a broad variety of other attraction types, particularly dark rides, and was generally just an immensely pleasant experience and an immensely pleasant place to be in.

I'm aware that PortAventura does not have the most stellar reputation for ride operations, but I'm hoping that the fact I'm visiting in September should mean that the queues aren't terrible.
