PortAventura: General Discussion

I agree with Enter Valhalla. Although I only really rate 2 or 3 of their coasters (there's no middle ground at PA: I either rides are good... or bad - there is no in between) - I feel they need other stuff sorting first.

Since that time, more recent additions have not been as subtle - see Baco, Sesamo Aventura and Woody’s Casa. There is something about the additions being made which just feel a little cheaper or less authentic than the area that they are in. Everything feels a little cartoony, rather than rich in detail.
Was very annoyed with Woody’s Casa on our visit last year. Was denied being allowed to take photos with Woody on our own camera to be forced to buy their staged photos. Even Disney are happy to take photos with your own cameras. I told Woody to stuff it and walked out.

Casa Woody is essentially just a jumped up way of selling you a photo. Pretty shameless.

As for Baco not being an eyesore, I’ve gotta disagree. The intrusion into what was a beautifully landscaped Mediterranean fishing village is awful. It has absolutely no place where it is and continues to ruin what used to be a far more charming area. A massive coaster train screeching across the otherwise serene lake is every 2 minutes cannot be excused.

The station building and themeing are the only saving graces of what is otherwise a stark visual intrusion.

It's no different to Meet Mickey at the Disney parks, if you see him in the Theatre then the only photos you can have are professional ones. Obviously you're free to take your own photos with him around the parks, as you are with Woody around the PortAventura parks.

@venny have to disagree there, I think Baco blends in very nicely. If you could see the whole coaster, then yeah it would ruin the area. But it's only really that swoop across the lake visible, I think it's a great 'introduction' to the park.

Its nowhere near as offensive as Spinball Whizzer.

Baco is far more offensive than Spinball Whizzer.

Spinball is fun, for starters.

Say what you want but this photo of baco to me doesn't at all stick out like a sore thumb (a photo my family took of it).

If it was bright yellow with spotty green and pink supports then I'd say yes, it'd be remarkably obtrusive. It really isn't that bad; in fact I'd argue that curve over the lake is one of the better views of a coaster in the world. It's just a shame that post-launch, the rest of the ride is a turd.

I'd say Baco is quite subtly integrated into Mediterrania myself from photos. I've never really thought of it as being massively "out of place" so to speak.

I'd certainly say that Red Force looks more "out of place" in most Mediterrania photos than Baco does, but that is literally just a speck in the background, I suppose.

You’ll have to tell me when you’ve been to PA, every two minutes would be amazing!:tearsofjoy:

I did think about caveating that. If you’re trying to enjoy a beer on the adjacent ship it certainly feels like it rattles past every two minutes. If you’re in the cattlemen I’m sure it’d feel (and most likely be) more like ten!

I suppose your opinion on Baco depends whether your preference leans more towards themeing or coasters. If you experienced Mediterranea before Baco and you prefer themeing, it’s going to be more of an eyesore than if you’ve always known it there and you don’t care as much for themeing than ride hardware.

Well since it was 75% fastrack when we were there at new year it was effectively 1 train from the main queue about every 8 minutes, so not that far off ten really.

Think the 2 minutes is a little optimistic

Personally I quite liked the look of Baco, and the area around it. Certainly looks nice in the sun. However the ride is awful and It says a lot that during my trip there I only did it two or three times despite having unlimited fastrack.

I’ve just booked a trip to portaventura
Is Baco really as bad as everyone says?

If you do the inside seats then it's tolerable. The launch is pretty punchy and certainly enjoyable, but after that it's just aimless meandering. If you sit on the wing seats, especially towards the rear of the train, it becomes deeply unpleasant meandering.

It's like being in a car that is repeatedly stalling albeit at high speed.

There are words. Acceptable. Baco isn't as smooth as shambhala but I've been on far rougher rides elsewhere
