Preparing for a possible next major World War

The military have never, ever, wanted conscription.
Causes no end of hassle, AWoL, and unwilling soldiers.

They want people who actually want to go into the forces, simple as that.

Nobody got signed up with the Falklands, even though I did get some very dodgy correspondence from the MoD.

All good stuff. But what if too many of the farmers sell off their land and move to Greece or Spain? Less food security and we're in a worse position than before. It's fine if we think that our government will put together a plan to take over these lands or start new farms elsewhere. But would they?

Be harder for them to do that since they all voted for brexit.

There’s an irony there somewhere.

You say that, but a lot of countries have exemptions for people to move there permanently if they have over a certain amount of money in the bank. Anyone with a large farm would be loaded if they sold their land, vehicles and other equipment.

Half of farmers are tenants, they don't own the land, and like so many others, lease their vehicles.
Two thirds of our farmland is tenanted, the land often owned by the very rich and royal...like large chunks of Devon, and My beloved Ribble Valley in Lancashire.
The rich farm owners are often not the people actually running them.
