PS4 or Xbox One

PS4 win hands down for me. Why? Because they actually seem to care about us, rather than the money.

I get Xbox One's ideas and in principle they make sense, but not everyone is blessed with a constant internet connection. For the last 3 years, moving into student houses has left me with no internet for at least a month every time. First year, halls had countless issues with the internet. Second year O2 took forever to connect us, same with this year. So I'd only be able to play for one day on a console each time that I've paid over £400 for. Quite simply that's not acceptable.

You pay £430 or so for a console that is riddled with restrictions and various apps that you probably wont use. (I don't know about any of you, but I dont use Netflix, I dont use Zune, I dont use any of the stuff they have on there APART from iPlayer occationally) Why pay that much when you can pay about £70 less for a console that is more or less the same, that allows you to play offline in situations like that, that allows you to trade in games or buy used games etc. In halls I traded games with my fellow flatmates constantly, it was a good way to bond with new friends too.

It's a strange world we live in, when all a company has to do is announce features which have been used on every other console in the past to get the crowd cheering. This is a truly historic moment for gaming, if Sony went down the same route gaming would have crashed and burned.

It's not fair for the average consumer to be penalized for the efforts of your average pirate. Besides, I read somewhere that pirates tend to buy games more than the average consumer.

Microsoft are going to feel this... First windows 8, then Xbox One...

I think Mankey has got it spot on there. With the 24 hour internet connection that must be required for Xbox One, I think Microsoft are only aiming for those who are addicted to Xbox 360. There's reasons as to why the average gamer can't connect to Xbox Live on the Xbox One. For instance what if you go on Holiday and you'll be away from your console? Or what about if it's exam time and you just have no time to play because you're busy revising?

I hate all this stupid stuff like being able to Skype or watch Netflix on a console. If I wanted to do then I'd just turn on my Laptop and do it (I personally don't do either). I play games consoles for games (And very rarely watch DVDs) and that's how it should be in my opinion.

That said, I'll obviously be getting a PS4. The games sound a whole lot better and Sony seem to care about their customers by allowing us to buy preowned games and lend them to friends. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us for the next few years!

Also I'll be getting a WiiU as well as the games on that sound awesome. =P

Its not just the consumer being online at all time, its Microsoft being able to make servers to cope with everyone being online at all time.

What happens when Xbox live is down for a couple hours, you can't play the games you paid for at all, what if those are the only free hours you have after work, you are stuffed.

Thanks Microsoft.

PS4 simply because they are correcting last Gen mistakes, not creating them! They care for you. They are always watching.

And Sony are making PSN+ compulsory for those who want to play online, so it'll be the same on Xbox. One difference is that you need gold to watch things like Netflix on the Xbox but you don't need PSN+ to do the same on the PS4. Xbox Gold members are getting free games every month, but I assume Sony will do the same.

PSPlus members have been getting a free game every month since it started, so really Microsoft are only catching up :)

I love the fact that Microsoft are now making the mistake that Sony made with the PS3, you'd think they'd have realised that the whole 'one system for everything' approach has been done before, and it doesn't work :p

I was always going to get a PS4 anyway, it could've looked ridiculous and cost a fortune but I'd still buy it as I'm a Sony fanboy and prefer their exclusives, but I am extremely glad it does look awesome, and is a hell of a lot cheaper than I thought it would be :)

I've always preferred Microsoft's exclusives over Sony's IPs for some reason. I much prefer Forza over Gran Turismo, and Halo over Killzone or Resistance. Though having said that, I love the InFamous series, and am currently downloading Uncharted 3 (thanks to PSN+) to see what all the fuss is about.

How you haven't played the Uncharted series is beyond me!! You really should start from number 1!

I do find it funny that no plans for a halo game only a Tv series and the developers are making an exclusive new ip for the PS4.

Halo could of been the one thing to sell XBone and seemed to be the main ip which sold Xboxes, another trick Microsoft has lost.

Microsoft announced a new Halo game at their E3 conference. The franchise is now developed by 343 Industries (and Halo 4 was actually a really good game).

Bungie's game, Destiny, isn't exclusive to PS4 - it's being released for Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3 as well. Sony's consoles just get exclusive DLC.

Ok my bad, I did think it was stupid not having a new Halo game.

PC gaming master race represent regardless, never played halo or any of these exclusive titles so they don't interest me as much.

The thing is, the next Halo game won't be until 2014.They've missed being able to launch it alongside the console which would have been a large benefit. However, I can appreciate 343 taking their time and not putting Halo out on an annual basis.

I will most likely be sticking with my 360 and then converting to a PS4. The only losses I feel I'll suffer from are the exclusive IP's to Xbox, and the controller. I find the controller for the Xbox is designed to fit more comfortably in your hands than that of Playstations, something I noticed when jumping from the PS2 to a 360.

The Xbox controller looks much better, the ps3 I find a bit small and light. Ps4 one looks better technically, but ergonomically Xbox wins on that one,

Im looking forward to trying the xbox one controller on my PC though!

Both controllers are a vast improvement on their previous incarnations.

Halo has passed its heyday now. It passed it with Halo 3. I've enjoyed the later games but none of them have come close to Halo 2.

Perfection, that game was. Incredible xbox live gameplay. Revolutionised console gaming and FPS all in one.

I miss it :(

EDIT:
http://www.neowin.net/news/anonymous-xbox-engineer-explains-drm-and-microsofts-xbox-one-intentions

Worth a read.

What I can make of this is, if it's all true, then Microsoft need to fire their PR department and start over.

If they have the intention of making everything DRM and lowering the costs of the games like steam WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T THEY SAID SO?!

I don't know what their intentions are, but the fact that they've upped the price for a compulsory add on that I won't use then I've not got my hopes up.

It wouldn't surprise me if there's a good idea behind the 'always on' feature of the Xbox One. For example, they way Forza 5 uses connectivity to completely scrap AI in single player and replace it with bots tailored to different players around the world sounds incredible. When explaining these features, they should have been focusing on it's strenghs and not be scared to mention it like they have been.

I feel all of this is just stuff to cover up mistakes.

Everyone hates this... oh wait I meant this..

Everyone hates that... no I mean this...

I don't even know what to expect with an Xbox One... Everything to say seems to change to cover up previous tracks, so either it's all BS or all these features will be implemented a while after launch.

Is it just me or is the Xbone another step in the world becoming more like 1984? With the kinect being Big Brother, it reminds me of the scene where they have to do exercises in front of the screen to make the women behind the screen happy...

Needless to say I'll be buying the PS4. I can't really see why people would buy the xbone (Unless they're massive Microsoft fans) it's hardware is worse, Xbox live isn't as good as PS+, you cannot trade or lend games freely, you have to connect to the Internet ever 24 hours. And it costs £80 more.

Honestly at the moment I would buy the Wii U over the xbone. And it means that the last good product Microsoft has released was Windows 7 in my opinion.

Xbox live isn't as good as PS+

Whilst I agree with a lot of what you've said, the way it stands at the moment you can't really compare Xbox Live to PSN+. Firstly, PSN+ is an incentivised way for players to help fund Sony's online plan by giving out free games almost like a rental service. For what it is, it's fantastic. I haven't had to buy a PS3 game in so long because I just play what they make available, and in the past year they've really stepped up on what you can download. It's a great service.

But it's just a rental service, nothing more. Paying for Xbox Live essentially pays just for the upkeep of Microsofts online system. And as far as the online infrastructure goes, Xbox Live is way ahead of the PSN. I've found it most noticeable when downloading - as much as I love PSN+, the download speeds are far too slow. Even Wii U does it faster. Xbox Live is much quicker. Throw in all the extra features available through Live, and as far as an online service goes to play games with, it's the better choice.

It'll be more comparable come the release of the PS4, where PSN+ becomes mandatory and includes the features that Xbox players have enjoyed for years.
