Quick Questions

Previous experience in running the ride?
I know if I do the Beach on a Sunday morning, the only ride with a queue will be the Big One.

The parks know the visitors like shepherds know their sheep, they all get hefted in the end.

Sorry I meant a brand new ride.

How do parks calculate queue times before a new ride opens?

The new ride at Efteling has just opened on 180 minutes main queue, 90 minutes single rider. Obviously they know the throughput but beyond that? Is it likely to be quite inaccurate initially till points of reference are created?

Edit: someone in the Efteling thread said they queued for 50min so guess I was correct 😂

Most queue are built with a theoretical amount of people they can hold in each space. They’ll do some maths to figure out if x amount of people are at this point versus the theatrical throughput then the queue time will be x. Of course, real life is very different and they’ll soon realise that these figures may be off and work out reference points once they bed the ride in.

I think I remember reading Hyperias planning documents and I believe it contained the theoretical figures for the queue line. It may have been a different ride but I’ve definitely seen one somewhere.

Another explanation of the 50 vs 180 is we weren’t at the back. We were hotel guests so allowed in an hour earlier than everyone else (as far as I know). The 180 probably applied to those who came through the main gate.

They extended the queue line way back beyond Symbolica down past Pardoo’s statue for most of the day. They obviously knew it was going to crazy all day. Once you hit the proper entrance I’d guess it’s about an hour from there on a “normal” day. It has a long winding queue line so I think they’re expecting it to be longish queues even after the initial excitement.

I checked a few times throughout the day and it never reached that again after the morning, seemed to settle between 90-120 so I expect they overestimated initially (although equally you’d assume that was the busiest point).

The stated capacity is 1253 an hour so looks like it’ll be another excellent queue muncher in an already well equipped park!

Not sure where you saw that - we were using the Efteling app which showed 240 for a lot of the day, and walking past the queue which was immense. It never dropped below the extended queue line as far as we could see which is to be expected on an opening day.

I was using the app too! Luck of the draw I guess, I’m sure you were checking more regularly than me.

Hi everyone, my son (11) loves going to Alton Towers and thinking of getting him an annual pass for Christmas. We live in Manchester so one of either me or my wife would go with him each time. Would it be possible to get just him a gold ATAP and then we get the friends discounted ticket to enter each time? I presume we would still benefit from free parking, merch discount etc just using his pass. We just don’t think we’d go enough to justify getting a pass for each of us as well.

Looks like they have recently binned off the previous offer of 3x£19 bring a friend tickets and replaced it with a perk similar to Merlin passes where you can book discounted entry for up to 5 people per day to accompany the passholder.

So that being said it sounds like your plan would work.

The 3x£19 deal is now called Share the Fun and is only available with MAP Platinum passes.

Family and Friends discounts, which are availabe to AT and MAP gold passholders are now 25% off the online price.

Thanks.

Am I right in thinking you buy the tickets online through the pass holder hub and apply the discount, so you don’t have to queue at the park entrance to get your discounted tickets?

Might it be worth seeing if they do a Black Friday sale on Alton Towers annual passes? The renewal for me a couple of months back on an AT Gold Annual Pass was only £89. If they do a sale maybe the offer price will be similar or slightly above that? If you pay for discounted tickets 3/4 times (for both of you) you might be just as well getting a pass each in any potential sale (if there is one)? But yeah, if only one of you will be going with him each time then you might clearly be better off getting one discounted ticket for each visit. Thought it might be worth mentioning anyway on the off chance that they do a decent sale at any point.

Does a Merlin Annual Pass get you into their international parks? Guessing not but can’t seem to find any information.

Does anyone here do solo visits I'm thinking of going tomorrow solo and feel quite nervous about it. Is it as bad as it sounds or is it nothing to worry about?

I think I'm more worried about the social part of the experience not having anyone to talk to all day etc ha ha do u have a plan or just go for it and start with all Ur favourite rides

it is good I often go by myself, normally you can watch the rides and I would reccomend charging your phone and going on it.
The best part is skipping the queue as the smiler, 13 and spinball have SRQ. also means you can do what ever you want when ever I usually go without a plan and do what I feel, and when the queues are looking low.

I will make sure I charge my phone and ear phones. Make the most of the last visit for the year before closing. Seems like a ideal time to the ques have been a lot better this week then most of October
