Quick Questions

Or just park in the lay-by opposite pink lodge and walk up the side of the road on the small bit of scruffy grass. Not sure how far up/down what you're trying to see is though. Probably not worth the risk of one of those wide quarry trucks coming down and potentially smashing you into the hedge/fence.

Is the Water Park typically closed late January and February till half term? The current calendar only goes up to Jan 4th.

Typically, the water park closes after the winter season and reopens in late January after its yearly maintenance. But it is also typical that it's hours are added to the website super late. So I think you can probably assume it will be closed from the 5th, and if it is following normal patterns will reopen sometime around the 20th January.

Half term isn't fixed and varies by school and local authority. Although each school will only have a week off, It can cover a three week period.
Yeah I know that, I meant that the second full week of Scarefest is half term for the areas around Towers (Staffordshire, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire etc).

...and the lucky students at Oxford haven't even started term yet...
double post whipping, I meant to edit there, sorry.

Some schools have two weeks off though generally that’s only private schools.
As only 6.4% of the school population in the UK attend public school, I tend to generally discount them. They're also pretty much entities entirely to themselves and can set most of their own rules.

In the general vein of the topic, the fact that some public schools have longer holiday periods isn't going to have much of an impact on how busy Alton Towers is going to be during Scarefest.
