Black Mamba has quite a sizable drop at the beginning, just a bit shorter than Nemesis Inferno I think, and while it does feel quite fast, I found it starts to peter out a bit towards the end. I've certainly never come off and thought "WOW, that's FAST."

Yeah I’d say Mamba feels like it has more of a drop than Nemesis, but the thing to consider is that while it does run through trenches and cutouts, the overall topology of the land around it is actually pretty flat (I.E. it isn’t built on a hillside like Nemesis).

It’s drop isn’t huge, but like Ninferno it’s an uninterrupted drop from the highest point to one of the lowest, compared to Nemesis which works its way down much more gradually, so I think it feels quite different.

When Mamba does feel stupidly fast is at the end of the day when night has fallen (such as at Wintertraum). The whole layout after the drop is more or less in total darkness, and with it being buried in the trenches there’s very few reference points you can make out. If it felt like that every ride (day or night) it’d probably be in my top 5.

From my non-rider’s perspective, I think Black Mamba’s supposed similarity to Nemesis comes from the fact that it has a lot of trenches, and seemingly offers a very similar style of ride experience with the landscaping and near misses.

However, they seem as though their reasons for having the landscape are very different to one another, and the rides themselves are incredibly different track and train. Alton Towers had to opt for a somewhat unconventional layout when building Nemesis, because the local authorities wouldn’t have allowed them to build a conventional inverted coaster layout, thus the pit and the ride we have today were born due to some amazing creativity from John Wardley, Tussauds and B&M.

Phantasialand, on the other hand, built a more conventional inverted coaster in terms of track and train, but managed to emulate a similar style of ride experience to Nemesis through some very clever theming and landscaping.

I haven’t ridden Black Mamba, so please do correct me if I’m wrong on this, but that’s just how it looks from my perspective!

The reasoning for Mamba’s layout is similar to Nemesis. Both parks have challenging neighbours and restrictions placed on them. Phantasialand’s main issue is noise, hence why Colorado Adventure’s two main track areas take place in sheds, Taron has a giant wall behind it, and F.L.Y. is being surrounded with high walls. Mamba opted to sink the track and place it at the opposite end of the park to their neighbours to minimise noise.

I've now done 5, although not the intended coaster (which is Batman at Parque Warner) so that'll be for next year. The new coaster is Black Mamba which is nested between Montu and Ninferno.
