Apparrently an old beggar pleaded to Nick Varney to spare them a budget, but he cruelly dismissed her.Oblivion's problem is usually some moron whipping out a phone at the top of the lift hill, but having said that ALL the B&M's at Thorpe and Alton have been as reliable as a chocolate fire guard this year, did some ex-employee cast a curse on the rides or something?

Rita's been pretty ok so far too, more so than the coasters from usually reliable companies *ahem* GCI *ahem* B&M.At the moment, The Smiler seems to be the most reliable ride at the park. It's been down a bit this year but usually seems to be ok

Is it because they have taken the pay bonus incentive from the techs to get the rides open faster. now they just dont care if they open them on time or not

It's really going to sting in the summer season, much more than it's doing now, and it's already a mess when it's not overly busy! Imagine school trip season

I gave up on nemesis at the weekend, one train with second row out of action, fast pass galore and queue right to the entrance. No thanks. EmbarrassingThis is getting embarrassing for Towers and Merlin. They are seriously struggling to get rides open on time; I have never known Nemesis have so many issues.
You cannot make cuts to tech services and expect everything to be be fine.

Agreed this will affect opening times and length of downtime etc. The bonus scheme will never return due to the smiler incident and rightly so. It should never have been allowed in the first place.
Cuts are the biggest issue though.

Are the rides more unreliable this year, or were they previously quicker to get them resolved so nobody really noticed?
A lot of faults are seemingly fixed quite easily when technical services arrive, but perhaps there's not enough of them to deal with multiple failures across the park.

Bonuses for getting rides open early in the morning had nothing to do with the Smiler crash, that was solely a lack of communication between teams and an engineer who thought he knew better than the computer.

But if there was a bonus for getting rides open quickly during technical delays (as opposed to the daily checks), that could put extra pressure on the engineers to work quicklyBonuses for getting rides open early in the morning had nothing to do with the Smiler crash, that was solely a lack of communication between teams and an engineer who thought he knew better than the computer.

It was brought up in the investigation and court case and this just wasn't ride start up in the mornings but applied to breakdowns too and that's what I meant when I posted it.

Scorned, the old beggar screamed a curse... "For every flake of snow or drop of rain that falls, your coasters at Alton Towers will suffer". Later that very same night (and on subsequent days / nights) the weather was not kind and ferocious snow and rain fell over Alton Towers. And true to the old beggars prophecy, the coasters have run like bags of spanners so far this season.
