Ride Availability/Operations 2022-25

Today’s not been too bad. Operationally they seemed to be on top of things compared to last Saturday, and Rita was one of the only rides to be running during the downpour when we checked the app.
Nemesis wasn’t running at its best though - it’s one I usually like to try and re ride, but I could certainly feel the shake and rattle people have spoken about so gave it a miss

If the downpour there was anything like the "suddenly RAIN" one had up in Leeds around 3/4pm there'd be no wonder that stuff would close down temporarily.

Sometimes things are out of the park's control. Shocking I know.

It looks like riders had to be evacuated from The Curse At Alton Towers yesterday; see video below at the 9:20 mark.

Also - later in the same video (at the 17:00 mark), the vlogger mentions that they got stuck on Toxicator for 15 minutes or so!

Hope it didn't ruin her birthday too much, she's at least in the know about parks and coasters. This is where I think thoosies come into their own on Youtube. When things go south, they do just make the most of the company they are with and the attitude towards the park is always "I'm not angry... I'm just disappointed" rather than a Karen type reaction :p

Customer experience is a lottery atm

I was out in that rain when it happened yesterday in my little part of Yorkshire. Flash flooding everywhere which was fun to drive through

Opening weekend aside, operations and availability have been excellent overall this weekend. Let’s hope it’s a sign of things to come and the opening day was just bad luck.

I'm having my first visit on Friday and would hope Rita at least is back on maximum capacity. Hopefully with another 4 days shut after today they can get it back on 2.

If Skyride and Rapids are at the staff training stages, hopefully Hex is too. The lights have been on in the building at the side of the entrance, is this anything to do with the ride does anyone know? Genuine question, I don't mean to sound silly if it's not

Do you mean to the left of the main entrance doors? I think that’s offices, not anything to do with the ride.

Visited Towers this weekend for the first time this season.

First impressions weren’t great, from the misleading car park layout, various dilapidated areas and the monorail running just two trains. Rather embarrassing to what could be argued to be the UK’s flagship park.

Operations seemed noticeably inferior to previous standards, with Rita on just 1 train and Galactica on just 2 trains and 1 station, dispatching every 5 minutes. Having 3 rides closed ( albeit expected) is also a shame for a park that’s had 4.5 months to sort things out. On the plus note, the Thirteen team were doing great!

Although not rammed, queues often reached/exceeded 90 minutes. Spinball, oblivion, Wickerman, Galactica and Rita at the very least experienced lengthily shutdowns. This excludes the heavy rain closure that evening where most rides understandably closed for a short while. However closing Spinball in the rain (as opposed to reducing capacity) now is just disappointing.

Despite running the Alton After Dark and being the start of season, there wasn’t any real buzz or atmosphere at the park which I’ve felt previously, even post Covid. The vibe improved noticeably after dusk, but there was just something missing and I can only put it down to further quality retraction from the Merlin machine. I had a Toby carvery breakfast, so therefore didn’t need to eat the overpriced and underwhelming food selection.

I don’t want to be constantly negative about the resort, so I do have some positives. Toxicator is a great addition to the park, it looks the part more than I was expecting and looks great off ride. The setting was the right level of intensity and adds more to the area. Curse is still an exceptional dark ride and epitomises what the creatives can do with the right resources. Although a little rattly, Nemesis Reborn is still fantastic and looks stunning at night.

I really want to be more appraising and positive towards the park, because they have so many great rides. But I can’t sugarcoat the place solely on this. Towers has a lots of operational issues at the moment and with current trends I see things getting worse rather than better. The park ideally needs millions spent on infrastructure upgrades, however this will probably never happen.

I'm back at the park today after the near write-off that was last weekend. Things aren't quite so bad today but I can't get over just how slow Nemesis ops are at the moment. Every train is stacking for 2-3 min on the brakes. A good crew on OG Nemesis could get similar throughput on 1 train

Edit: of course the moment I start timing them they bash out three sub-100s dispatches back to back

It's odd as at one stage yesterday they were banging them out, then later on it slowed to a crawl

After spending quite a while in the station, it appears they're having trouble with restraint sensors again. They had to recheck front row several times in my train.

Thought it was a bit bizarre yesterday I was chuffed to get the front and they always have to give my restraint a lil push to get the seatbelt in but they said they weren't comfortable doing that and put me on the big boy seat on row 4, same op had no issue giving my restraint a lil push on my other rides that same day.

On a more positive note, credit to the Galactica team doing a great job with what they've been given. Queueing just 20min from the entrance on 1 station was a pleasant surprise
