Ride Availability/Operations 2022-25

That is being replaced by Bluey next year.

And they have been running multiple Monorail Trains this year at least 3 most I have seen this is 5

It used to run 6 trains as standard (think theoretically it could operate 8) and had 9 trains to use (it never ran 9 at once) so the fact the most you have seen run is 5 just proves everyone’s point about loss of capacity.

That is primarily due to them refusing to let people onto the station without gates, increasing loading times dramatically and meaning even wotg 3 trains it stacks regularly

Things had got bad before the silly gate rules, believe me.
They were only running it at about half capacity by then anyway.

It was on 2 again recently. It needs sorting or scrapping. Platform edge doors would be best if they are deemed necessary.

And?

The reason is irrelevant (and anyway recent capacity loss has been because they won’t send a train into the towers street loop if the station is occupied as there isn’t an evacuation platform there). Fact is they could fix the problem (add airgates and build an evac platform), but they haven’t so it’s an issue.

I have been calling for air gates for ages, the reason I mentioned it was your original post made it seem like just adding some trains would fix the capacity but it wont, some infrastructure needs to change (air gates, and evac platforms)

I've been calling for free ice cream for pensioners for years...
Nothing needs to change with the monorail apart from putting more trains on the track and scrapping the silly platform rules, nothing at all.
It was fine for the first three decades of use, wasn't it?
Literally millions of users with no major deaths I can recall...
No infrastructure needs to change, just ridiculous Merlin rules.

And to think, we’re still trusted to wait for a train on an open platform with high speed trains speeding through stations!

I think the issue is more that even non-major incidents make the news these days for click bait. I don’t know for certain but I would be shocked if they haven’t had some incidents in the past (falling off the platform), and they likely don’t want that in the Daily Mirror.

I don’t think the news is even the big issue anymore.

With TikTok and the like around, just about anything can go viral within seconds, and I’m sure the park could do without that negative publicity.

To be fair, I fully understand and appreciate why they don’t allow waiting on the platform anymore.

What is a shame is that it’s be so easily (albeit not cheaply) resolved with airgates.

I'm not even sure they'd be that expensive? They've got voids the the mechanisms to sit in, and they can use the ones where the bar is above the station rather than underneath so they don't have to drill into the concrete.

They added air-gates (or modified them) on Mandrill Mayhem to improve the thoughput so it's not like there isn't precedent, just not appetite.

The gates on MM were replaced with taller ones, presumably Merlin weren't happy with the standard ones due to how fast the train goes through the station
Yeah I'm still perplexed as to why they went with the regular-height gates in the first place. The whole original batching system makes me think that someone just didn't think it though.

had an interesting weekend at Alton. Saturday started terribly ride wise but Sunday was exceptional. One thing to note, Wickerman opened at 10 both days, broke down at 10.30 both days then a further stoppage was made as a third train was added at 11.30 both days. At one point on Saturday early on quite a few rides were down at the same time, wickerman, 13, rita, nemesis and spinball included in those. After saturday afternoon things did improve barring a 13 breakdown which involved a full ride evac. Sunday was exceptional though asides wickerman going down just as darkness hit. The last time I checked the app at 8.30pm wickerman still had a 70 minute queue time although pretty much everything else was near walk ons.
