Ride/Park Accidents

Excellent video here from Fascinating Horror about the Fujin Raijin II accident, It is very respectful and does not focus on the graphic details (exactly why FH is the only disaster channel I watch);

I have seen his other stuff, but not this yet, the rest is really good. I would also recommend plainly difficult they do good disaster videos (although largely trains / neuclear) without focusing on the graphic parts and normally he goes into detail with the systems involved

Very interesting. It's also incredibly odd that they built a duelling set of coasters in 1990, removed them both in 1991 and then recreated one of them (which was Fujin Raijin 2) in 1992!

Any chance of a quick summary of the main points he makes to save us having to watch all 28 minutes of it?
He speculates it could be somehow the ride's power polarity was reversed mid-ride (from the generator?), causing motors to run in reverse, both the spinning and the lift motors. And that the E-Stop triggered when going down, but due to possibly greasy wires wasn't able to stop (but was able to slow it down) before reaching the bottom.

More accounts, pretty much confirming the behaviour if the ride during the incident.

No update regarding the arrests, the suspects would have been released by now, probably either under investigation or on bail. With HSE investigating I would expect it to be a number of months before we have any meaningful update.

Dozens of children killed in crush at Nigerian Christmas funfair
Utterly horrific, I don't know what to say 😢
That’s an awful tragedy. It seems that it was an event where they were giving out prides, food handouts, scholarships, etc. Looking at the video of the site though I’m not sure if it was actually what we would call a “funfair” though in terms of something with rides or if instead it was more like the kind of Christmas fair that you might say get at a school (but on a larger scale)? Of course whatever the type of event it was it’s a horrific tragedy that has occurred.

Showing an already low quality video in not only a half screen format but a camera on your monitor is some of the worst content I’ve ever seen.

If that's the only format it's available in then I'm happy to see it rather than not see it at all. It's clearly been recorded from a monitor rather than being properly copied, probably by someone who really shouldn't have been recording it!

The company that ran that drone display is in for a whole world of trouble. I think the litigation that comes off the back of this could bankrupt them.

Spencer Stokes had a clean history and fully co-operated with the HSE. This was an oversight about the storage shed location and egress into a ride area, rather than LWV which has history including deaths and it was from a serious failure.

£28k seems more like a slap on the wrist really - Lightwater Valley got a £350k fine in 2019 when a child was injured falling off a ride. I don't see how there's such a big disparity in the fine amounts.
Will be based on percentage of turnover, and culpability.

Unfortunately the park haven't filed their accounts so we don't really know their financial situation (although their 2023 accounts show the park is 79k in debt)
