Scarefest 2019

TBH if some of the box office queues at scare fest last year (like back to towers trading!) is anything to go by I’d rather just pay the extra on line!

We bought maze tickets at the actual entrance to the maze last year. Had to queue at the box office to revalidate our HOM tickets as my partner accidentally booked the wrong day. Haha. Never again!
And Matt yeah they definitely touch you in all the mazes.

No not true, you are not allowed to touch the scare actors and they are not allowed to touch you (with the exception of the Sub-Species and The Welcoming - which is not making a return this year)

what they are allowed to do and what they do are two completely different things tho

This is definitely true. But I’m pretty sure the voiceovers for the “adult” mazes all state that the actors may touch you. There’s been physical contact in all run-throughs of all the mazes in my experience.

Annual pass prices are now available along side the full side prices.

Bit of a silly question, but will darkest depths be dark in the day time, or should I aim for after dusk. I never did house of monsters, so I'm not sure what to expect from a family maze. Wanting the best experience of the maze, so is it all under cover? (I thought I'd seen a top-down photo but can't find it now.

Does anyone know if you can pre-book individual Maze Tickets as we don’t want to do Sub Species so the Maze Combi Ticket would be a waste.

Or is the box office the only option?

I've heard that you can only buy single maze tickets on park - that I am not completely sure of though. :)

I had a look on the website and there was no sign of individual maze tickets unfortunately.

In previous years I believe that the only way to book single tickets for the mazes that are in the combo packages is on park, yes.

I’ve also never been to scarefest or any Halloween event in general. Is scarefest still one of the better events? A good one to start with? or will a need fresh trousers for the mazes? :D

I feel like Scarefest is definitely worth doing if you haven't before.

The mazes at Alton always have a unique story/style, and usually have really good quality theming. The Attic also looks extremely promising, so I would recommend trying the mazes out if you can. Considering this may be the final year of Subspecies, I definitely recommend giving them a go.

Rides at Scarefest are also a lot of fun, especially at night. The best night rides are:
- Th13teen (because it is pitch black)
- Nemesis (best coaster even better)
- Oblivion (great view of the Smiler at night and fun drop)
- Wicker Man (fire looks great and feels a lot faster)

If I'm honest, the atmosphere at Scarefest has let it down in recent years. In my opinion, the removal of the Scarezones was a mistake, as they offered a really good halloween atmosphere without having to go in the mazes. However, the lighting this year seems to have been improved, the decorations on Towerstreet look good and the park seem to be trying to add more decorations this year. Hopefully next year there will be even more!

I definitely recommend Scarefest as a starter halloween event. Even though you have to pay for the mazes, they are always very high quality. Being in the park at night is also a lot of fun. :)

Yeah, I've always wanted to visit! especially with how big scare events have gotten now. Sometimes easier said than done for me as my mates aren't into it as much as me.

Think I'd be quite nervous for the first time in a scare maze.:tearsofjoy: Cheers for the info!

You can buy individual maze tickets via the app, so no need to have to queue at the Box Office :)

Did anyone experience the mazes today - if so, how were they (no spoilers please) :)

In quick summary
Attic - disappointing, group size too big, missed the show scenes due to being at the back. Fantastic theming. 4/10
Project 42 - much improved on last year, longer maze, different style of actors if that makes sense like last year was mostly zombies. 8/10
Mine tours - a few small improvements, more hands on from the actors. 8/10
Sub species - extremely intense. Felt much stronger this year. 10/10
Darkest depths - this is not a kid maze! Fantastic theming actors were great. This is quite intense. 9/10

I did the the 4 main mazes yesterday so I’ll briefly say what I thought
Sub Species- I’ve only done this for the last 2 years and thought it was weak but this year is what I imagine it being like when it first opened, very impressed, it was actor loaded and I I actually got grabbed, pulled, pushed, the lot of it! Fantastic 10/10

Mine Tours- fantastic as always, actor loaded once again, had an ankle grab and face touching which are probably the best scares I’ve had in my time doing it! Still needs a better finale imo but solid scares nonetheless 8/10

Project 42- This has improved so much since last year! I don’t remember too much about last year but I think there’s new theming and maybe a route change? Tonne of actors in this one yet again and the the costume designing in this one is particular good! Got touched quite a few times as well 7/10

The Attic- slightly disappointed, theming is fantastic and there were a lot of actors but as simple as it sounds when you read it I’m not massively sure if the story flows? Finale was weak and it was my least favourite. Also if you struggle at all with steps, you have to go up like 6 flights of them just to start the maze 5/10

Overall, the strongest set of mazes I’ve done at Scarefest!
