Wonder if Alton Towers should go back and use its original theme back in the 80's before Hall of the Mountain King the main tune that played during its adverts
What theme tune was this?

I think at this point, In the Hall of the Mountain King is so synonymous with Alton Towers in the public psyche that they almost couldn’t use anything else! It’s been used by Alton for at least 30 years, if not longer!

Incidentally, when did Alton Towers actually start using it? It occurred to me when making the above statement that I don’t actually know exactly when the park started using it in their advertising…

Hall of the Mountain King was first used in 1992 during the Runaway Mine Train and Haunted House Adverts

I was wondering when this conversation would next year its head!

Hopefully these two posts, from excellent and knowledgeable members, will help.
Pretty sure it started two years after Tussauds took on the park with the major additions of the Haunted House and Runaway Mine Train in 1992.

I probably post this every few years, but Grieg wrote ITHOTMK with satirical intent, claiming it was inspired by "cowpats, ultra-Norwegianism, and 'to-thyself-be-enough-ness", and that he "could not bear to hear it, though I hope that the irony will make itself felt." It's basically deliberately rubbish.

Of course, it's been a huge hit for 150-years since.

OH GOOD GOD NO!

Hall of the Mountain King all the way! Admittedly, the original theme is an ear-worm tune, but is more cheesy than a Dominoes 3 cheese pizza with an extra helping of Double Gloucester and Cheddar on top for good measure!

I'm booked to do the Compound behind the scenes tour on Sunday.

We'll see after that if I'm brave enough to actually do it... never done a scare maze before so that could be entertaining for my mate... :D

My advice for Scare Mazes is start off with something tamer and build your way up. Face your fear and go right through.

The more you react the more scares you will get

Crikey, you're brave choosing Compound as your first maze! Hope you enjoy it, and let us know what you think 😊

It's not a choice as such - the behind the scenes tour also includes a run through the maze, so I may as well use it :D I'm either brave or stupid, not sure which! :D

Best version of Hall of the Mountain King was done by The Wombles on their Keep On Wombling album from 1974. Just a brilliant track and great guitar work (by Chris Spedding).

*In the Hall of the Mountain Womble

Agreed on it being the superior version.

Did the thrill scares today. Quick thoughts

The excellent ones - Burial Grounds, Edge of the Forest (I was leading the group and thoughts the scares were excellent/very intense in EotF

Good ones - Dark Hollow, AMT - scarce on actors in AMT but very intense on the scares

awful - compound. I’d never done it but was out in like 4 minutes. Cages and strobes and the shortest route you could probably get. I was apprehensive about this more than any of them but it was awful. I wouldn’t give it higher than a 3/10

I think that sums up my thoughts on Compound, after only one run through last year: It's clearly a very good maze, but so dependent of what route you get sent on. (I think I got lucky, by deciding to get in character and spout conspiracy nonsense at the actors ["Birds aren't real, man!"] - ["We've got a Truther! ... This way for you!"] ... they "took an interest" in me, and sent me down a diversion that seemed to give me an extra loop or two).
But given that the rest of my party was waiting for me when I got out, and I still felt it was too short, I have to question if the average guest gets their money's worth?

Indeed.
Triple boxed set of Wombles albums.
Just to wind my heavy metal mates up at school.
Mike Batt has been a hero of mine for a long time.

Completely off topic, sorry.
Boo.
That is twenty pounds please.
