Security at Theme Parks and Other Public Places

Likewise at Blackpool, on your average summer weekend the security staff end up with a fine collection of pipes and dope grinders.
The intelligence of some people...just not clever enough to stick it down their sock or something.
Security don't bat an eye..."sorry sir, the options are confiscation and safe disposal, or we have to call the police."

Bag free queue? They didn't have that last time, which one is it? As I'm going this week, and will be bagless, anything to speed up my entry helps lol.

Not much, although appointing ourselves head of the world police didn't help.

There's actually a more in depth reason for security checks, it keeps people employed who may otherwise be signing on, same for a lot of other things that are far too boring to be discussed on a theme park forum, but yeah, terrorism and knowing your every move is a very British thing, I had a friend come over from the states recently and he was astonished at the amount of security everywhere, plus when you compare the present policy to that of the IRA era, it's laughable to consider we ever survived that period without the same crap we have to put up with now in the name of "keeping you safe".

Brexit will result in even more need for security, didn't you know the housing market is going to collapse (again) and there is going to be so much civil unrest that martial law will be declared....
Bag free is the middle between the two queues

Think it’s only bag free for a few hours in the morning then the security guy there buggers off and closes it so then have no choice to to go through bag check. Bag or no bag

The security on BPB isn't there to protect the punters from terrorists, its to protect the catering staff from home made butties.

Have to agree. Same applies to my local park, Dreamland. The main purpose of the security searches to stop food going in during the daytime and drugs going in at the nighttime events.

From what I gather they aren’t 100% effective at either of those tasks!

And in the US it's because "no guns are allowed on park". Conveniently lets them their out all your food as well:mad:

So I got a response after emailing Nick Varney in regards to their horrific handling of Sunday.

Just got off the phone with Thorpe, apologetic about the "miscommunication" and said she would get park operations to look into the wakesurf school website (sorry if you see big massive boards in security queue).

And in also getting 2 X £10 vouchers so all is good now, I think my next battery pack will be one that looks less bombish.

FFS THORPE security no you don't take someone's AAC device away from them put it in a basket away from them then insist they walk through metal detectors and you check their bag (read look at it...) Before faffing about and giving it back to them.

Yes I told them before they asked for it that I had it to speak.

People presenting with communication issues not capable of stabbing people or bringing drugs into the park then? Right oh.

missing the point, they took it but didn't actually do anything with it yet didn't actually search my bag.
Most security can figure out how to handle AAC properly, it's not that difficult, all that is needed is to quick check the device and place it after the walk through detector NOT the complete opposite side of the table.

The actions by security you describe in your first post, which my response was to, sounded absolutely reasonable.

The ACC is classed as a medical equipment, they have no right to take that away or move it to a position so that you are not in a position to access it.

Could you also carry some pre printed cards with instructions on saying that you are "unable to talk without your ACC device, please to not remove or position out of reach"?

Maybe you can get some further advice from Disability Rights?

You consider it reasonable for security to temporarily gag disabled guests?

That's the impact it had and they were well aware (see pic of the screen I showed them that they clearly acknowledged by the common assuming incompetence demeanor people switch to knowing you don't talk).

it shouldn't take that much effort to tell it's something to handle properly.

It's not the searching of the device that I had a problem with more deliberately placing it as far as possible from Mr as possible AFTER I said I use it to speak, a few of their colleages could easily figure out what the right thing to do is.

I've done some digging for you @imanautie with regards your rights and the rights of the security guards. Here are a couple of links, one is for UK airports and the other is for what Security Guards can and can't do. I've copy and pasted some of the points from the links below which may apply to your situation. I know that you are not entering an airport, but the advice given might be in parallel to entering premises where security guards operate. By the looks of it they are allowed to search your mobility equipment, and it might be helpful to carry a letter from your Doctor or Hospital specialist explaining what the equipment is for. The following text is all copy and paste and I hope the information is of help for you

"Security searches are carried out on all passengers and baggage before they’re allowed to board the aircraft. This includes searches of disabled people and mobility aids."

"Medicines and medical equipment
You’ll need a letter from your doctor explaining what they’re for if you need to carry medicines and medical equipment such as needles or syringes."

"A security guard is not allowed to search you or your possessions without your consent if you are present and conscious"

"If a Security Guard asks you to allow them to conduct a search of your bag and you refuse them, then they are fully within their rights to forbid you from entering the premises, whether that be a club, bar or otherwise."

"Like any other member of the public, security guards are allowed to perform a citizen’s arrest if they have reasonable grounds for suspicion of the person they plan on arresting."
