Minecraft has been around since 2009. I remember playing it when I was younger and I'm in my late 20s now. I remember back when it was just a game online that few people played and I had to convince my mum to buy it for me, since it was some random company, developed by a small team, and now look at it, it's now owned by Microsoft, has multiple spin off games, a NETFLIX show in the works, a feature-length movie, plushies, LEGO sets, officially licensed costumes for Halloween and so much more.
It's a HUGE IP for Merlin to get their hands on and with the influence of Minecraft youtubers over the years too, they could easily get a few 'big name' Minecraft Youtubers to advertise a potential new 'Minecraft World' at AT or Chessington. The possibilities are endless with Minecraft and I had no idea it would last this long when I was younger.
For those who aren't familiar with it, Minecraft was originally a sandbox game, which basically meant you could just do whatever you wanted in a procedurally generated world. No two worlds are the same kind of thing. As time went on, more updates were added, new 'mobs' (creatures, enemies, etc), new world biomes (jungles, ice caps, etc), and eventually they created an actual story objective within the game so you can technically 'beat' the game, but then you just continue adding to your house, farm, exploring the world and so on. Then they made more games such as Minecraft: Story Mode and Minecraft: Dungeons which were minecraft, but it was a different genre of game.
As great as original IPs are (my favourite being The Smiler), I think that Merlin would really benefit from a well known already established IP. Yes, there was Spinball Whizzer that had Sonic for a little while, but it was never built from the ground up as a Sonic ride, nor was there a land specifically for him, but yeah, I feel that an actual Minecraft area would be a fantastic investment for the park.
