How about this. This would work so well in Gloomy Wood over something such as scarefest, with a very subtle but potent lighting package.

Another world class iconic piece of theme park music.

Perhaps, but personally I'd go for the sinister Garden soundtrack for Gloomy Woods area over the Vestibule soundtrack. Don't get me wrong, both are incredible pieces of Theme Park music, but I think the Vestibule would work better in the rides indoor queue and station, and the Sinister Garden soundtrack is just more daunting and atmospheric for the outdoors personally.

As of late, it seems like Merlin are trying to stray away from what Tussauds built up in the park on the theme and tonal scale, so I wouldn't get your hopes up about it happening anytime soon sadly.

This is a bloke I follow on the YouTube™. Does alot of things local to me. Good views of inside the station aswell.

Not a bad little video. He does do some decent stuff. Has a nasty habit of not fully researching before he goes. So does that awful thing of guessing vocally whilst having text explain the history. Would avoid his nemesis and what's it called at thorpe park opening day videos. As you will see, he does like to put his mug on and talk about himself.

Not a patch on our very own @BarryZola least Barry does his homework.

Not watched the video above but I did watch the one about the old park railway within AT a couple of months back. He was inaccurate with a couple of things in the park railway vid but when I did point that out in his Youtube comments he was very gracious about it to be fair, and he didn't mind me sharing a link to my older park railway vid after that in his comments. Came across as quite humble and seemed a decent bloke 👍 :)

That's good to hear about him.

2005 behind the scenes look at Black Hole. A few minutes of various clips showing the internal ride system with lights on and some of the maintenance area. Love the station area theming!

Thanks for sharing this.
Along side the flume and toyland tours, this ride is one I truly miss. Should have been kept and maintained at all costs in my opinion.

Smiler is great but surely would have fit somewhere else in the park?

The issue with Black Hole was around fire exits, the spiral lift hill was especially a problem, by the time someone had got up to the train and escorted everyone down it was seen as exceeding the maximum fire safe time. A bridge directly to a fire exit from the top of the lifthill might have worked to avoid the long walk up/down and spiral but I expect the cost wasn't worth it. The Black Hole was not removed to make space for the The Smiler, hence the site sitting vacant for a while

Spot-on, it was fire safety rules that saw the demise of the Black Hole. Yes, Towers could have spent a lot of money building a central fire exit down the middle of the spiral lift, but the ride was starting to come of end-of life. Just look at all the white NDT magnetic paint on every track join. Black Hole was a good ride, but it's had it's day. Not enough throughput for one.

Well, I finished making that really niche video on the 'Statuary of Alton Towers'. Gives a history of the statuary and also features some old footage of the various fountains, and there are old pics etc. It's 1 hour and 40 minutes long though, and you have to listen to my voice droning on for that long!

Mate this is superb. I’m an hour in so far and loving it. The way you merge the old photos and videos in with present and also go to the different places to see the tombs and lion was fascinating.

Going to watch the rest tomorrow but amazing work, really well done.

Thanks pal, that's very much appreciated. It's obviously quite a niche subject so it's great to hear from people who have enjoyed it. The editing and audio is a bit clumsy here and there as usual but as long as the main info and images etc come across OK then I'm happy. I hope you enjoy the rest of it :)

Way more professional quality than my first attempt mate. And I make telly for a job.
I would just say that if you're doing it for yourself and the enjoyment of the people who are interested in the same stuff as you, it's the honest content that's important. Just be yourself and people will get on board, I'm sure.

If people want/need to make Youtube a career for themselves at any cost and want to clickbait or force a video out every day to feed the algo etc then that's on them.

Loved the rest of it - just finished it. Really throughly enjoyed it. My partner watched it too and she loved it and she’s not an Alton fan like me.

Learnt quite a bit from the video.

I’m curious though, three things were missing for me -

1. The pagoda fountain
2. The dolphin fountain which is below the pagoda one
3. The Talbot head hound fountain in the wall as you walk into the gardens

Just wondered if you didn’t include them for any reason? Or (excitedly) is there a part two coming?

Thanks again Gary 👍

Yeah, I didn't include those 3 things on purpose. It was meant to be more just based on the sculptures really but obviously some of the fountains were actually sculptures themselves or had sculptures incorporated into them, so I felt more inclined to include those ones that I did. For example, I see the Pagoda as more of a building than a sculpture so I left that out. I mean I could have included it just out of interest, but I've covered it a little bit in other videos so I didn't want to overdo it.

Arguably I could have included the Dolphin Fountain, but most of the old pics of that aren't great (a couple are decent), so I didn't think it would be overly interesting, and again, I've covered that in other videos too a little bit. In hindsight actually, now you mention it, I probably could/should have done a little bit about it.

With the Talbot dogs head I just decided against covering it as to be honest I'm not even sure how long it's been there past my own memory of it always being there. It doesn't ever seem to be mentioned in very old literature and it doesn't seem that significant of a feature to me (probably a bit harsh). I wasn't sure how much I'd be able to say about it that was actually backed up factually. On a side note, I think that the dogs head that had been there for years got nicked or something didn't it several years ago, and the one there now is a replacement? Can anyone remember that? Am I imagining it that the original one was made of lead, which is why it got nicked and they've replaced it with a plastic one or something (lol). I've probably totally made that up.

Anyway, that was my own reasoning with myself about leaving those few things out. Probably a bit flawed on the Dolphin Fountain, but they were conscious decisions 👍:)
