Hi, so happy to have found this website, hope you all can help! My family of 3 will be coming over from the United States in early June to visit Alton Towers and I'm thinking we will stay on resort but I'm wondering about getting to and from the train station (looking at Stoke on Trent or Uttoxeter most likely). It looks like the bus only runs to get people to the Theme Park at open-end and back to town at close, which doesn't work for checking in the day before our visit and checking out the day after. Mostly concerned about this after checkout, in the morning, as we will be taking a train to London/Heathrow so timing will be important. I found a number of taxi companies where I could prebook and see prices which was reassuring, but AutoCab was one that had an App so I downloaded it, but it only lets you book a week out and said it has no availability for rides from the resort back to either train station. I'm wondering if that's just because it's still off season?

TLDR Is it easy to get a taxi from the resort to a train station on a weekday morning? Any recommendations for taxi companies that book ahead?

Thanks so much!!

Hello

I'm sure someone can give you more specifics but yes it's very easy to get a taxi either way. You can get an Uber from the station if need be and the hotel can help you arrange a return though as you say booking yourself will likely be preferable. I suspect most local taxi firms won't take bookings that far ahead and it would be better to try a few weeks prior.

Both stations operate a taxi rank, so you're able to walk straight from the entrance to a taxi without booking.

Uber isn't officially licenced in Uttoxeter and it's not a large town, so reliability can be patchy at best there. Stoke is larger and you're more likely to be able to book an Uber there.

Bolt is an alternative to Uber, with competitive pricing and more coverage in out of urban areas. I'd recommend having both apps ready to go, so you can pick what's best to use on the day.

Using an app taxi service to leave Alton Towers is a bit of a pain. The apps request drivers based on proximity, and many aren't keen to drive all the way out to Alton Towers for a single job. The hotel will have relationships with reliable local taxi firms though to cover you there.

Bus is an option, but the schedules haven't been confirmed for the 2025 season yet as Alton Towers is yet to completely confirm its opening hours.
