The Finest Ale

I has a can of Rocket Lolly by Northern Monk last night, £3 odd from Sainsbury's.

It does taste rather like someone has melted a Rocket Lolly in your beer, which is of course a syrupy, unnatural and concentrated flavour that in beer terms you'd associate with cheap artificial adjunct craft. Drinkable, and can't complain as it does taste of the thing, but overall would not recommend.

On the subject of Northern Monk beers, tried the Hot Cross Bun ale.

It's rare I have to actually throw away a beer. This was just undrinkable. I like hot cross buns but this just completely overpowered the pallet.

So I went to the backup beer. Brewdog Rattle and Rum. A nice stout that has an almost chocolate taste to it.

I'm no fan of Brewdog, but I really dud enjoy Rattle and Rum too.

I still have the hot cross bun in my fridge, might crack it open tonight...

Late comer to this thread! But I am partial to a good ale every now and again. My local has just put on “Ten Fifty”, from a local brewery called Grainstore. Lovely mahogany beer, quite hoppy too. I’m usual more of a pale ale person but I do enjoy this one if anyone ever gets chance to try it or already has.

Got to love s specific gravity named beer. My local Crouch Vale has Ten 46 out at the mo, that's a decent drop too.

I've just put an order in for a box from Vault City. Look at this lunacy. Double Deep Fried Mars Bar Stout. Could not resist.

Still yet to try it, waiting to find it on draught somewhere rather than buy the bottles.

Following the incredible Christmas tipple from Northern Monk x Chris Simpson Artist, I had to go in for the Easter release I Laid This One.

The art is just as spectacular as the last one, the beer slightly less so, but still a solid pale ale that's better than most you'll find.

A couple of deliveries yesterday to see me into the start of warm summer days.

That double deep fried mars bar. Ooooft.

Where on earth are those from
The top lot are from Baron Brewery, I'm not sure they are that easy to find as it's a tiny (I think one man) brewery making some beautiful pales. Ordered through Brewser, a subscription where you choose your brewery each month and the brewery sends you a surprise selection directly.

The bottom lot are from Vault City, brewing some of the best sour beer and big stouts in the world in Edinburgh. Ordered directly and selected individually from their website. 10% off 12 and free delivery. I get a box from them a few times a year.

A couple of beers from the last week, first up two flints, new brewery to me and only been brewing for a year or so, this is pretty amazing.

Then a favourite brewery of mine, Holy Goat, with their Lemon Crusher. All sorts of interesting in the barrel aging with a huge depth of flavour. Incredible stuff.

I get my beer from Brewser, a monthly subscription where you chose a brewery each month from some of the best around and they send you a box direct from the brewery.

For the next few days, until the end of the month use my code to get £15 off your first box. Ove not posted offers before but that's obscenely good value.so thought I would share.

I've been using it a year and a half and love it. No commitment, pause or cancel any time online. You can just get this one bargain box and leave it at that if you want. The signup boxes are identical to the regular ones, not clearance.

I get a referral bonus too, but I'd happily recommend without it.

London Craft Beer Festival yesterday. Had some incredible things. Also had some vile things.

Beer of the day, Yonder Peach and Cherry Sorbet sour, served as a slushy. Incredible stuff and still ****** lovely not served out of a slush puppy machine.

Beer of the day not served out of a slush puppy machine, Pastore Banana Split sour. Is what it says it is.

Beer of the day that is actually beer, Whip It Real Good by Black Iris and Bang the Elephant, a big 12% sweet stout aiming at being flavoured like a Walnut Whip, I put it nearer a Snickers, but boy it's good.

Beer of the day that is actually beer and is golden in colour, Achlys by Alpha Delta, Big fruity juicy DIPA, powerful but smooth.

Disaster of the day was also from Alpha Delta, Sour Count. I love me a big powerful sour, and at 10.5% that's what this is, but I found this deeply unpleasant. It's supposed to be based on a carrot negroni, to me it was like musty salt. I've got mates who loved though, so what do I know?

Cheers!
