The Great Squeeze: Cost of Living Crisis 2022
I’m away at the moment but quick price check for my local area shows Supermarkets and larger chains such as Shell/BP mid 1.60s and independents mid to low 1.50s. Much better than the 1.89-2.00 not so long back. Anyway such ‘savings’ will soon be outweighed by energy cost increases, which come close weather will be much harder to avoid.

Petrol is around 169 and diesel is around the 179/80 mark where I am in the West Midlands. According to confused.com it’s Texaco which are showing as one of the cheapest near me which is weird as they’re usually one of the more expensive ones, Asda which is where I usually fill up is further down the list at the moment, it’s actually gone up a couple of pence since I last went there.
Trago Mills Just outside Exeter Think it’s one of the cheapest in the Uk along with a garage in Abergavenny in wales. The Trago is decent Shell fuel tooWhere is this?
It's absurd the difference in prices across the UK currently. Where I live (Central Staffordshire), the local Tesco is 173.9 today.
Rule of thumb is always stay away from BP garages which always seem to be more expensive

It's not usual for differences of 20p+ (excluding services, Central London and very remote areas).I don’t think people should get bogged down in the price differences across the country, that has always occurred and is usually related to local competition, the key issue is the average cost in the UK exceeds our European neighbours by a considerable margin.

Not sure it’s that big a margin. I was in Spain in June and prices were very similar to the UK for fuel.
Fuel was a lot more expensive in Holland when I went there in June, it’s never easy to do a direct comparison as it also depends on the Euro rate.
Talk of average bills going to above £4000, well mine is already over that.
The real issue that’s about to explode is commercial premises bills quadrupling, this will put a lot of companies under resulting in huge job losses.

Just returned from Germany and France and there is around a 25-30p per litre difference.

I think the wide spread of prices is partly driven by the speed of price change. To an extent, the fuel is sold at a price relative to what it cost the company to buy, so lower turnover sites lag behind the price change. My local Sainsbury's is a bit out of the way and as the prices were rising was frequently 10p/l cheaper than a nearby busy Tesco on the big A road, now it's falling Tesco is consistently about 6p/l cheaper while Sainsbury's lags its price dropping.

Netherlands has very high levels of taxation on fuel and has been more than most countries for decades.Fuel was a lot more expensive in Holland when I went there in June, it’s never easy to do a direct comparison as it also depends on the Euro rate.

Last week, NL was around €2.20 a litre. France, Germany and Belgium meanwhile? €1.70. Due to state intervention.

I think the hot tub is getting drained this winter and the Mrs can learn to walk instead of plugging her car in.Think you need to put a few sweaters on this coming January pal.

It would appear that the energy price cap has been confirmed to rise to £3,549 in October: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-62633742
It currently sits at £1,971, so that will nearly double energy prices. The cap is thought to be creeping even higher in the months to come, as well… there’s talk of prices exceeding £5,000 by the middle of next year.
I must say, I’m absolutely terrified about what the months ahead will entail…
