I actually agree here, The Smiler's queue is a mess but it's great being underneath the coaster as you're queuing for it.
Yes, it adds to the theatre.
When i was there in the week, the queue varied between 0-15 minutes all day, but most of the queueline was being used, it added to the disorientation to be honest, in a good way, as you couldn't even work out where the queue was going.

Back in the early 2000s, the BBC show Tomorrows World did an experiment with John Wardley where one group of people queued for Colossus at Thorpe Park, while another group waited in a room and couldn't see the ride at all. Then they measured heart rate and asked questions to determine the effects on the riders. I'm pretty sure those who queued and watched the ride for an hour had more of a reaction to the ride.
I think the craziness of the ride also gets your heart rate going in the queue. I stand by this that the smiler is the only ride I look at in towers that makes me think 'oh s**t'

I get that more on Oblivion, it is still one of the only rides in the world that when on the lift hill I question whether I should be on it. Apocolypse at Drayton Manor also gives similar feelings for me.
Oh I don't get that feeling on the smiler, just looking at it. In terms of when I'm on the ride, Rita gets me nervous and my heart racing. Think that's just launch coasters in general

I thought you get RAP in which case you won't have to queue for an hour. They never give more than about 30 mins.

I want to get the front row for my first ride though, that's why I'm going to use the main queue (RAP have to use the back row).

Regardless of where you queue, you will always have a 1 in 4 chance at the front row. (If you are a single rider then currently you have a better shot at the front because if there is a two in the front row you get the end seat!)

There was one time when I go with my cousin (which is only at Scarefest as its become tradition) that we obviously were using RAP and were asked if we wanted the front row, obviously said yes. But yeah, it's back row - I don't find it rough on the back though so you might be fine with the back - maybe thats just me though.

it depends on the host, some do fixed seat some don't, it's not like oblivion or rita where they are really strict and will even detrain guests after restraint checks are complete.
