The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

I think an updated 4D theatre would be a very good addition. I do feel that not reopening it was one of the biggest missed opportunities when TWODW first opened, and I think having that cinema back could really improve the area’s attraction lineup.

As others have said, I don’t think a flying theatre would fit in the 4D Cinema building. For some idea, the building for Flight of the Sky Lion is 13m (~42.7ft) high according to the planning application, and while the theatre building is tall compared to the others in the area, I’d certainly be guessing that it’s a fair bit lower than 13m (particularly once you go past the facade).

Question...is this most hated rethemed area among enthusiasts out of all the themed areas over the years? Certainly getting that vibe for sure.

Dark Forest was an active step backwards, at least Walliams came in when Cloud Cuckoo Land was already breathing its last breath.

Still rubbish though.
Kind of but Rita had already killed Ugland.

I kind of like Gangsta Granny as it is a 100% upgrade to the building, the area is not an improvement or downgrade though clearly just a cheap paint job to go with the new ride.

I think Thunder Rock Rally was probably one of the worst received, with the soundtrack the only positive thing to be said for it.

Mutiny Bay came in for rather a bad time as well, due to it being essentially a reasonably minimal overlay onto the old Merrie England theme, but sold as some sort of major new area. With hindsight, nothing that came after should have been much of a surprise. Off the top of my head, I think Wicker Man might be the only attraction Merlin ever added that really enhanced the area it was built in.

Actually, no... the original Cloud Cuckoo Land was also a massive step-up on Cred Street, which (to get us back on topic) is one of the reasons the Walliams World gets such a bad rap, the area now feels like it is back to where it was in 2008.

TWODW was unfortunate really to coincide with the worst Public Health disaster for generations.

It does seem like a pretty half baked area so I can only think they had bigger plans which were scrapped.
It does seem likely that they had future additions planned however there definitely seems to have been a strategy change both because of COVID and the Merlin privatisation that seems to have resulted in them focusing on other bigger projects like Duel and whatever is going in coaster corner. Perhaps Walliams world was something planned during Merlin PLC that was later reviewed and a change of direction was decided upon under new leadership.

IIRC, wasn't it that this was pushed through by the Merlin board of that time and yet those at Towers didn't want it to begin with, had the change in leadership had happeneda few years earlier we might have not gotten TWODW and CCL would have limped on to fight another day? I suspect the new board probably don't have much love for it though and would likely change it now if they didn't have a yearly licence with keeping it there as was the money.

Speaking of which, half the money that would have gone into the retheme was pretty much just to get the rights for if that was never the case to begin with then the area would have looked a lot better for sure which given the cache 22 of getting a IP for what you can spend, makes you wonder why they even bothered?

TBF, I have always said that ever since either the closure of Coaster Corner and the creation of Land of Make Belief I'd say, that area seems to be cursed (yes, a real Hex story I'll say!) to keep changing all the time over the years and with it being a dead area of the park. I can only hope that whatever they put into Coaster Corner will finally lift the curse and will see the area thrive once again.

I don’t know… I’d argue that Smiler enhanced X-Sector quite considerably. It was a really energetic, visually impactful ride addition that fitted the theme of the area, and I’d argue that it breathed a lot of life into X-Sector; I’ve seen photos of the area before Smiler (when the Black Hole tent was still there), and I’d argue that the area looked a bit lifeless before Smiler; Smiler added a really cool element of kinetic energy to X-Sector and breathed a lot of life into it, in my opinion.

Technically the X Sector theme was updated when Smiler opened, for example all the area signage was replaced with Ministry of Joy signage.

I don’t think it particularly clashed with the existing theme, though; they updated it a little to fit Smiler in, yes, but it did fit with the overarching theme of X-Sector, in my opinion, and I’d argue that the visual energy of Smiler enhanced the area quite significantly.
