This is something they seem to forget on all rides, that coasters need painting, theming needs replacing, wood needs varnishing/staining, everything needs cleaning. It isn't just dilapidated themed stuff, everything at all the Merlin parks just doesn't get the cleaning it needs.
 
Great idea to already have graffiti in what looks like the queue - it means that when more is added by guests standing around for two hours they don't have to clean it off. Yet more quality innovation from the folks at Merlin Magic Making!

I don't understand why, if you're trying to turn a Theme Park around and make it more family friendly, you'd add a car crash of a building like this one, smack bang in the middle of it. Thorpe Park isn't the most pleasant looking Park in the world as it is, without building a huge rundown warehouse in the centre.

Don't worry, the building wont look like this in the end. Like we will see that much theming
 
No, you're right Leah, it won't look like this when it's finished and ready for opening. Down the line however...
 
Am I the only one who thinks that it actually looks alright? Lots of parks go for this distressed theme, I know that in the past Thorpe Park have over done it or done it on the cheap but that building looks genuinely quite good and if they pull it off to that level we will ha e a pretty well themed building.

If you've not seen it before then Google 'Reset' ride at Mirabilandia Italy. That has the appearance of a dilapidated, graffitied old building but is actually one of the best themed ride buildings in Europe (the ride is rubbish but forget that) and Mirabilandia is without doubt a family friendly park in every way.
 
I think its alright, at least it is themed, and we don't know the full theme of the ride yet (it might fit really well). My problem, however, is that it wont look like this. The smiler station concept art looked quite similar to this, and look what we have now. This would be great if we did see it as a part of the finished ride, but I fear that merlin will take the "it will do" option and allow it to dilapidate itself
 
Thorpe has too many dilapidated/destruction themes though - The Swarm, Tidal Wave & Saw, not to mention that a lot of the other rides are starting to look that way as well!

I feel that they should have gone for something unique rather than yet another "abandoned warehouse."
 
Tidal Wave does (did?) the destruction theme with a very tongue in cheek attitude though, that's why it works so well...

Problem is Merlin don't seem to know anything else other than destruction and/or industrial theming atm... Unless they get an IP involved...

I agree with that, Tidal did the destruction theme very well but the effect is lost now that half the park looks destructed as well.

Or the make a perfect looking run down warehouse, as in the concept art but then doing no maintenance and insufficient/incorrect cleaning. Merlin parks don't seem to factor maintenance into any plans.
 
It'll probably be sitting SBNO within two years due to:
(Pick as many as you like)
[] High running costs
[] Broken projectors rendering the entire ride pointless
[] Too many staff required to operate it
[] All the ride cars have broken in some way
[] Derren Brown suddenly not popular / accused of some nasty scandle
[] Some horrible accident
[] It sucks so bad no one rides it
[] All of the above
 
With the amount of money being pumped into this I highly doubt it will be left SBNO. Saw Alive was not a major investment for Thorpe Park and still gets used during Fright Nights. This on the other hand is a massive investment and so much is resting on it, Thorpe will be determined to make it work.
 
Well this is interesting, it's in a similar vein to the creepy Doctor & Nurses that we saw back in 2012 in the build up to The Smiler.



Needles to say, if you're not a fan of dolls this is pretty damn unnerving. However I am really starting to like the look/feel that this attraction seems to be developing at the moment!

Derren Brown is a big fan of Houdini isn't he? Probably at least partly why he'd chose the Victorian setting.
 
Are we sure the Victorian theme isnt because its easy to make it look run down? lol

Sure liking the trailer though
