Thorpe Park: General Discussion

It says on the back "talk to me about parking tickets and annual passes" I'm not sure even the most lanyard wankery of the lanyard wankers would buy that?? Would they??
(They also have tablets for handy sign ups)

In other news, it's tipping it down now so I guess hyperia will shut for good shortly 🤦‍♀️

I hope that this will be uploaded onto YouTube (similar to last year's presentation from Mack Rides), because I'm not sure if I will be able to attend, but I would like to see it - and I suspect that many others would, too!

P.S. Apologies if this has already been posted before, but - in addition to the new wheels - there have apparently been new support braces added to Hyperia's trains as well - see photograph attached, from coastertog's YouTube channel:-

Definitely, considering the queue sign was advertising ‘reduced capacity’ it might be something to do with issues on those couple of arms.

The ride looks to be tagged out with ropes at the top, no more movement on it today. It’s also made its way up onto the ride availability page. Shame I couldn’t ride it today, but it was running well a few weeks ago!

That's correct, Samurai was running on reduced capacity recently with two arms down.

I'm guessing this is to fix the issue that is causing the ride to need to run on 4 arms instead of 6.

Hyperia is odd to me. While I’m no expert, ignoring layout issues like the homemade trademark patented “fearless valley” it likes to pull on us sometimes, the downtime it experiences is quite extreme for a ride with a big chain lift, a station and a brake run.

Meanwhile, Voltron has all the bells and whistles and from what I’ve heard is zooming about with very little downtime!

Maybe there’s some good nutrients for machines in the German soil, but this seems like an extortionate amount of downtime for a - again excuse me for not knowing this - simpler ride.

It’s so new and I should like it so much but I can never be arsed to make the hour trip to Thorpe to ride it - well, convince my family to drive me there actually, the government sees my youth as too much of a threat to the roads! Shame really, I got the proper fancy pass this year too…

Feels like not eating all the refrigerated leftover chicken.

In Thorpe/Merlin’s defence, I imagine the fact that Europa is run by the manufacturer of Voltron must help with downtime.

Having the park management and the ride manufacturer effectively being the same people must help with maintaining Voltron and solving issues quickly to minimise impact on guest experience. Europa can just dip into the in-house knowledge base to solve issues with Voltron, whereas if Thorpe needs a problem solved with Hyperia, it takes an international phone call and significant lead times for things like parts, Mack employees coming over etc.

It’s also worth noting that Voltron has itself not been free of issues. The ride did stall on its press evening, and the apparent roughness roulette between trains and seats is far from ideal, I would argue.

In Europa Park’s case, building a Mack ride is effectively tantamount to building a ride in-house. That must surely count for something in terms of making the tasks of maintenance and ensuring good uptime easier, no? I dare say, in fact, that it could potentially play a role in Europa’s widespread low levels of downtime.

Likewise, I was planning another trip to ride the newbie...but the hassle of travel, and no guarantee of a ride, hit the "Can't be arsed" barrier.

Top notch chicken quote...sounds like my last Merlin Pass...Why did I do the Sealife???
I hate fish in glass boxes, they all look sad.

I think it's the roughness of the last couple of days as the train that is running is a lot smoother than the one I've been on Saturday with some rides.

Not been on Hyperia prior to yesterday

However I had a back row ride on Hyperia yesterday (my second of the day) and it was like a jackhammer to the brain at the bottom of the first drop. Was not expecting this ride to be that rough
