Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Software Engineering =/= Mechanical Engineering.

Very different processes abound. Very few manufacturers have their entire catalogue available as stock. And if it gets made off-site needing other companies involved then lead time increases.

A week waiting for a part is nothing.

Very bizarre to suggest Merlin would be good at maintaining some ride types over others - itā€™ll purely be down to the reliability of that ride type, not Merlinā€™s preference or skill set lol.

Why would it?

Maintaining the hydraulics involved in an accelerator is entirely different mechanically/electrically to a B&M invert.

Wonā€™t a lot of ride parts be made bespokely by the manufacturer for that ride rather than just being stock parts? Surely that will increase lead times, no?
Parts will be made bespoke, potentially by the manurfacture potentially by a cnc company (for instance for heat treating, etc)

Part will also be stock (inductance sensors, bearings, bolts etc) it depends of there is a stock part avaliable and specified to carry the loads.

I understand that stealth launch hydraulics are quite complex, something like 30+ hydraulic motors driving a cable and nitrogen accumulators in the hydraulics to "store" the pressure.

Part of the problem will be how often a part is needed, if a part is used daily you can make tones of them and stock quite a few as you know they will all be used, but if it is used more rarely and only potentially required you won't make many spares as it may just be wasting money

This goes for stock parts as well, as while part may eb used a bit more by other industries it may not be enough to justify stocking it, lead times on reletivly unique bearings can be weeks.

Noticing that a number of the merged Six Flags parks have a Chaperone Policy

This makes me wonder whether this would be something Merlin could consider, especially for Thorpe Park and Towers.

I think for Thorpe Park, it would help improve it's reputation with the rebrand that happened recently.

Thorpe would be deserted if this were to happen. 13-18 year olds make up a huge percentage of their attendance.

The Cedar Fair parks are more family friendly, so it makes more sense for them to do so.

There was a period where Thorpe did feel a bit dangerous at times, especially around Fright Nights. But I think they're in a good place at the moment, there's always a visible security presence and general anti social behaviour seems to have declined.

Definitely recommend checking out VIBES Bar and Kitchen in the dome. Genuinely shocked at how tasty it is considering the mess of food at the parks the last few years.

Will post here too as there's oddly two general discussions for Thorpe since this got renamed. Definitely recommend checking out VIBES Bar and Kitchen in the dome. Genuinely shocked at how tasty it is considering the mess of food at the parks the last few years.

Not bad looking food and prices are reasonable, is that ran by Aramark just curious, hopefully the other Merlin Parks like Towers can get something like this in the Oak and Chains at that price
