Top 5 Moments From The Big 7

We all have our preferences on how we rank the big 7 at AT, but I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread to discuss the best overall elements/moments on these rides.

For instance, oblivion ranks at around 5th for me out of the big 7, but I’d say its drop is the single best moment out of all of the coasters at the park.

For me, my top 5 looks like this:

1. Oblivions Drop
2. Rita’s Launch
3. Nemesis’ Downward Helix
4. Th13teen’s Drop Track
5. The Smiler’s 2nd Airtime Hill

Honourable Mention: Wickerman’s first ‘drop’ and Nemesis’ Zero G Roll

Interesting topic! Here’s what gives me the “fizz” from the top 7, in no particular order.

1. Oblivion - the drop, obvs.
2. Smiler - the first inversion (very closely followed by the 1st airtime hill)
3. Rita - the launch, obvs.
4. Thi13teen - indoor drop track, but the first drop back row is a close contender
5. Galactica - the lift hill that towers over the Nemesis pit, and then the last few turns looking out to the car park
6. Nemesis - the vertical loop
7. Wickerman - first big drop

I'm going to be cheeky and do my top 10 of my favourite coaster elements on park.
1. Oblivions drop
2. Nemesis downwards helix
3. Smiler's Downward corkscrew after the vertical lift hill
4. Smilers second air time hill
5. Zero g roll nemesis
6. Galactica fly to lie
7. Nemesis first corkscrew
8. Nemesis second corkscrew, love how it comes out of nowhere on the front row
9. Thirteen drop track
10. Nemesis vertical loop

Nemesis is definitely the winner for being the best pound for pound coaster on the park, every element is amazing.

Th13teen’s first drop is a weird one but I do enjoy it!

In the back, you float out of your seat as you whip over but then because of the trim, you actually lurch forward even more which kinda accentuates the airtime for me, rather than if it didn’t have it.

Near the front though the first drop is a major buzzkill.

Nemesis loop I love, especially the exit which for some reason feels more forceful than the entry (although I’ve only managed to get rows 7-8 across my 4 rides on reborn), so I imagine the entry feels super intense toward the front.

More the merrier! And I could list all of Nemmy’s elements as they all hit (minus the slow final turn). Even the first drop I appreciate for building up the anticipation

1: Nemesis' downward helix
2: Nemesis' zero-g roll
3: The 'fly to lie' on Galactica
4: Oblivion's drop
5: Rita's launch
6: TH13TEEN's drop track
7: The Smiler's barrel roll down drop(s).

1. Nemesis - Zero G roll 👌
2. Wickerman - The first big drop
3. The Smiler - Second air time hill
4. Wickerman - last airtime hill
5. Thirteen - drop track
6. Galactica - drop through the portal
7. Oblivion - drop (obvs 🤣)

It’s always great to see different perspectives on the big 7 at Alton Towers! I totally agree with you about Oblivion’s drop being a standout moment—it’s such an intense feeling. Rita’s launch is also up there for me with its sheer speed. I’d personally place Nemesis' Zero G Roll higher, as the forces in that moment are incredible. Wickerman’s first drop is definitely worth an honorable mention too, with its immersive theming adding to the thrill. Overall, your top 5 highlights some of the best moments in the park. Curious to hear what others think!

Heavy on the nemesis zero g! I think it's just placed perfectly, following the strong positives of the helix it provides that 0G moment to break away from the intensity before continuing

My favourite moment on Galactica is actually the part where you are briefly lying on your back (even though the ride designer John Wardley said that it made him sick!).

My favourite part of The Smiler is the third inversion (I think), as I always expect it to be rough (similar to the twelfth), but it is always surprisingly smooth (my least favourite part - aside from the rough twelfth inversion - is the first inversion, as I don't particularly enjoy heartline rolls, and I personally dislike the loud manic laughter that plays immediately afterwards).
