I am the best performing member of my team at work. If I screamed obscenities at a colleague for half an hour and then lamped them, I would be fired. The performance is regardless.
Oh god, I don't even care. Why am I posting in this topic? It's making me feel depressed, reading these posts. If you think beating someone up at work is acceptable just because someone's successful, you need to take a long, hard look at your life.

that he does. Sky and netflix will have a bidding war for top gear.
lets face it, None find it acceptable to beat up a fellow employee. But then again, being a peedo, doing drugs, cheating on their wives, rape is acceptable at the BBC. Celebs get away with these things at the beeb.

To be honest, I feel like the show has been out of ideas for a long time now and perhaps this is an appropriate end to the current format. Top Gear worked best when it was about three presenters genuinely passionate about cars going on epic adventures and taking on ridiculous challenges in old wrecks. It worked partly because it was new and we'd never seen TV like it before but also because the chemistry between the three seemed very genuine.
In more recent years, the emphasis has been shifting towards the show being The Three Stooges with Clarkson, Hammond and May. None of them are brilliant comedians or actors and the constant playing up of their on-screen personas and the blatantly scripted events has always jarred with me.
The recent specials in particular actually managed to be pretty boring. They were full of recycled gags that were only mildly amusing in the first place and they offered nothing new in terms of challenges or format. It's a shame because at one point, a Top Gear special was pretty much guaranteed to be engrossing television.
Aside from all that, the decision was definitely justified. I would have liked to have seen the rest of this series though, it's been the best one in a long time.

Well I've done a 15 hour shift and gone back to the hotel to find its stopped doing hot food so I have huge sympathy with JC, I reacted very similar.
The producer didn't do his job right and should of been sacked end of.
If someone was abusing me for 30 minutes I'd of walked off or belted them, not waited around for a scene to be made and looking for compo.
I hope this is the end of the BBC as we know it and their left wing bias, let them try and survive in the real world of commercial TV.

The first thing I'd do after working a 15 hour shift and going back to a hotel to find it's stopped serving hot food would be to grumble and moan, and then perhaps head off to bed, not punch an innocent bloke who has no say over the employment of a hotel.
How is failing to convince a hotel to serve hot food outside of its serving hours not doing a job right? Oisin no doubt having an assisting hand in evacuating a 100 team strong crew out of a country where everyone is out for your blood, and you're ultimately saying he should be sacked for a chef who works for a hotel going home?
End of Top Gear? Sadly yes. End of the BBC? Lolno.

His job was to organise the food, he didn't, a hungry man is an angry man.

You put your trust in the person booking accommodation and food to sort it, turn up at said hotel and find no room booking and no food = very peed off.
Technically the producer has been fired anyway as there is no longer a Top Gear, so no job.
May has already quit and Hammond will soon follow, the show is an entertainment show and long since stopped being about car reviews.
What I DO find interesting though is the BBC rushed out this announcement with such speed after Cameron wrong footed Miliband and announced a freeze on VAT at PMQ that they didn't even have the VT ready.
BBC=Labours communication wing, no wonder the Tories are going to scrap it after they win the election.

BigT there's a difference between being "very peeved off" and punching someone. The former is within your right, the latter is assault. If you support the second option this conversation ends and I will not be speaking to you again.
Having been on the receiving end of physical assault at work for something that was out of my control I see no excuse for it. Not to mention the people that do it tend to be vile people anyway, set off by the most petty of things. If that is what Clarkson did I feel sorry for the BBC. They made the right decision although those who worked on Top Gear will no doubt lose out for his action.

For any employee. Physical assault is gross misconduct which must result in sacking. There are mitigating factors, from what I have seen/read rightly/wrongly, that the producer was not an 'innocent party' - not for a second saying he should have been punched, but what he done/said and the way he behaved was clearly enough for him to get sacked too.
There will be people like/dislike the show, of course completely subjective, but my God, why are people so uptight about it, if it riles you, watch something else? The fact is, we are talking about this because the show was emmennsely popular and in millions of people's view; entertaining.

It's a shame really that if Top Gear doesn't continue, not only do the public who love the show miss out, but what about all the crew and staff who work on it (I imagine it would be a great show to work on, apart from having to deal with a diva host).

Why should you be sacked for punching someone in a hotel unless you work there?
It's not a place of work even if you are work colleagues once you get back to your lodgings you are no longer at work.
My first reaction was and would be in this situation a round of Foxtrot Oscars to the person who is supposed to organise things, but if things get heated I can look after myself.
There is obviously another side to this story though because why would someone just stand there and take abuse for 30 minutes?
You would realise you messed up and disappear for a few hours to let things calm down.
End of the day these "producers" are just lackeys that are supposed to support the crew not argue with them.
He should of offered to go to Macci D's and that would of been the end of it.

Just because they have reached their accommodation does not mean they're are off duty. That's almost implying that Clarkson would not have been permitted to punch the producer inside the TG studio, but had they gone outside into the carpark it would be perfectly alright?
He assaulted a colleague and has countless other strings of incidents under his belt. Whilst I enjoyed his personality on Top Gear and am truly gutted the essence of the show has been removed, his sacking is totally justified.
Oisin is not a villain in any shape or form and those who believe he is are beyond deluded.
