TowersStreet’s Favourite Rollercoasters in Germany

EGF is really over rated anyway in my opinion. I’ve not heard anyone say that they really, really like it, yet it seems to top many polls, which I’ve always found a bit of a puzzler.

I’d actually say that Sky Scream is Holiday Park’s best coaster.

With regards to the bolded; I’ll admit that surprises me. Even in recent years, I’ve seen many top 10s of people who’ve ridden a fair amount of roller coasters with EGF within them, and some even with EGF on top! I hear the ride get an awful lot of praise; I conducted a similar poll over on CoasterForce, and EGF ranked as their #2 coaster in Germany, just about getting beaten to the top spot by Taron. For that reason, I’ll admit I was surprised that it didn’t appear in more lists on TowersStreet; I think only @pluk actually had it, if I’m remembering correctly?

So in general, I personally reckon EGF is still a pretty highly regarded coaster, based on what I always hear; it’s quite possibly the German coaster I’m most excited for (well, I’d probably give that to Taron, but EGF is certainly up there)!

But fair enough if you’re not a fan, however; each to their own and all that!

I missed the deadline, but I'll do it for the hell of it.

1. Taron
2. Karnan
3. Wodan
4. FLY
5. EGF
6. Silver Star
7. Flucht von Novgorod
8. Karacho
9. Colossos
10. Black Mamba

I've pretty much rode almost every great coaster there is in Germany! The only ones I'd be interested in adding are El Toro, Dynamite, Tripsdrill's STC, Europa's upcoming cred, Star Trek and Van Helsing.

I’m in the same boat, but I’ll go ahead and share mine anyway:

1. Wodan (Europa)
2. Taron (Phantasialand)
3. Sky Scream (Holiday Park)
4. Krake (Heide Park)
5. Karacho (Tripsdrill)
6. Flug der Damonen (Heide Park)
7. Black Mamba (Phantasialand)
8. Blue Fire (Europa)
9. EGF (Holiday Park)
10. Bandit (Movie Park)- I must be one of the only people who actually likes Bandit.

Sadly I visited Heide Park when Colossos was undergoing its refurb, but I’m certain that when I do eventually get to ride it, it will feature pretty high on this list.

I really hate the term overrated, I have to agree with this. Why do you think everyone else is wrong?

For me, it is a pure ejector airtime machine and that's what I like. It does what the yawnfest that is silver star tries and falls to do.

Out of interest @pluk, what is it that you feel Silver Star fails on compared to other airtime machines? You certainly didn’t seem too fond of it based on your low poll ranking, so I’d be intrigued to know...

As for the term “overrated”, I’ll admit that I’m not a huge fan of it either, as I believe everyone should be entitled to their own opinion, but in fairness, I’d struggle to think of a better word. I usually just say “I don’t like [x ride] as much as the status quo” or something along those lines.

To be honest I find this quite insulting.

I never once said anyone was “wrong”

I also pointed out that everyone who I’ve spoken to personally regarding the ride has had a bit of a “meh” attitude towards it.

Based on what I’ve heard, I find that EGF, while more highly regarded on the whole, is a bit like Icon (to name another ride) in that it’s somewhat polarising; similar to Icon, most seem to either absolutely love it or think it’s a bit average. It is clearly even proving polarising in this thread, as @pluk seems to fall into the “love it” camp, while @Enter Valhalla seems to fall into the “average” camp.

I think EGF‘s recent fall in prevalence may partly be down to the fact that it is getting older, and has been overshadowed by a lot of newer hyper coasters in Europe (e.g. Shambhala, Hyperion and soon Kondaa), as well as all the other highly-regarded new coasters opened in Europe (Taron, Helix, Zadra and the like; the list goes on!).

EGF hugely disappointed me given the Mitch Hawker hype. It's a great first drop and two decent airtime hills. The rest of the ride is just forceless corners. It's also operated appallingly which probably doesn't help matters!

I'm sure you didn't mean to be dismissive of others opinions, but that's how I read 'overrated', it insinuates others are collectively wrong without offering an actual opinion of your own as to why. I didn't mean to be insulting so apologiesif that's how it came across, the post on the link explains it well. Its just not a positive term.

Because it has little to no airtime. Little pops maybe, but as that's supposed to be what it does what is left is just dull, and to me dull is the greatest sin for any coaster.

I'm told there might be significant variances with different wheel compounds, but I've ridden it a few times and found it the same. Maybe I've just been unlucky.

To compare them directly I think I'd survive silver star with no restraint, where as EGF would launch me to approximately Belgium if I tried the same.

Well to reiterate, I do not believe that anyone is wrong.
EGF was, for many years rated as the best steel coaster in Europe in multiple polls. Yet I’ve not heard anyone claim that it’s better than all other steel coasters in Europe. It is therefore, by definition, over rated.

I don’t feel I need to give my opinion of the ride itself to justify that point. It’s not, in my opinion, the best coaster in Europe. Therefore it’s over rated in my opinion. Nobody is wrong or right. I just don’t think it’s the best in Europe.

The ride itself is, in my opinion, fine. But that’s it. I’ve never been blown away by it. It was just a fun ride, no more, no less. I don’t have a strong opinion on EGF at all. If it hadn’t spent so much of its life being rated at the top of European coaster polls, I wouldn’t have called it over rated. It would still be a good ride. And it still is a good ride. But I certainly wouldn’t call it the best in Europe by any means.
