I don't have a silver bullet, life would be simple if we all did. I clearly stated that I didn't, so did you so I'm unsure as to what you are asking me?

I'm not sure what "talking down to us" is in relation to?

I accept your point about the word "moronic". I mainly said it in the flow of blinkered thought rather than actual considerion and upon reflection it was insulting of me. I apologise for this, have edited the post and respectfully withdrawn the remark.

No worries. It was just the 'moronic' comment that annoyed me a bit. It's all good mate :)

It was me being moronic by posting such a thing with little consideration for what I was saying. You had every right to be annoyed at that. Sometimes I need to be reigned in a bit with my language.

I'm no Saint myself. I've probably said worse myself. But at least we have the humility to admit it. I fully understand ;)

What about if towers offered for them to private hire the park for a day and close it to the general public as a solution........

It is a very emotive subject.

Ok. Lets try and do what a multi million pound entertainment giant can't. And sort out the problem.

First we call it what it is, antisocial behaviour by guests. Not just travellers.

Signs reminding guest of the expected behaviour in the T&Cs at the entrances.

On events days (e.g scarefest, fireworks) increase security (like it happens now)

Use the expected behaviour T&C to deal with antisocial behaviour. Be that giving a warning then removal from site if it continues.

If it is a major antisocial issue (e.g. breaking of a law like assault) they are dealt with by the police that have been brought onto site. Then removal and banned from site for a period depending on the behaviour shown.

You can not use profiling to stop antisocial people from entering the park as there is not a look for antisocial person. Just deal with it when it happens.

Ah the yearly topic where we ask multiple times to be sensible and contribute to worthwhile discussion and the requests fall on deaf ears.

Let's avoid the stupidity and the needless and sometimes inappropriate posts please otherwise this topic will be locked..

Mate, you might as well just lock the topic as soon as it gets posted every year, it always ends this way.

I'm no snowflake, but this interpretation of prejudice is plain wrong.

What you appear to be saying is 'travellers can be shown to have caused these issues, therefore travellers should be banned and this isn't prejudiced because of past actions of the group as a whole', but that response is perhaps the very definition of being prejudice!

What you would be saying there is that individuals would be refused entry based on their perceived membership of a group, key words there being individual and group. Confusing the two is where discrimination happens.

While it is entirely true to say 'travellers have caused issues' it is equally true to say 'not all travellers have caused issues'. This is why an organisation such as Merlin has to very carefully consider it's response to avoid being discriminatory. So 'you can't come in because you are a traveller' is simply (and rightly) an unacceptable response.

What can Merlin (this is an estate wide issue) do then? We'll, it's quite simple; deal properly and robustly with the individuals breaking the rules until the troublemakers are excluded. The group as a whole may then no longer attend, or change their behaviour knowing the boundaries. This would be labour intensive and expensive in the short term, requiring an army of security, but I believe would more than pay for itself in the longer term. Not just for the travellers too, smoking in queue lines, queue jumping, abusive anti social behaviour etc, by anyone at any time, should lead to ejection and a ban. It wouldn't take long for word to spread the parks would be more pleasant for everyone, and everyone has been treated the same. Without prejudice.

The obvious way to manage banning is fingerprint on entry, considering cheap phones now have fingerprint scanners it shouldn't be prohibitively expensive. I'm amazed they don't use them already for pass abuse management.

I find the idea of parks collecting a biometric database of visitors to be a far more disturbing concept than anything else discussed so far in this topic.

I am not going to into the problems of trying to finger scan a guest with issues that allow carers passes

Disney have done it for years. Just an idea so that banning can be enforced as it should be for anyone who is banned, which is really my main point. I'm sure there are other ways.

No, the 'interpretation of prejudice' I posted was a direct quote from the dictonary, so if it's plain wrong then take it up with them, but it's not wrong, it's only wrong in your eyes because you don't like it, someone said the comments were prejudicial, I merely pointed out the opinions were not prejudicial but based on fact.

I don't believe I said anything about travellers should be banned because they're travellers, what I said was perhaps if society called them out more for their behavour instead of pandering to the snowflake view that you should not level criticism at a particular group because it might hurt their feelings and it's unfair then maybe, just maybe the message might get through that the behavour is just plain unacceptable.

See this is the problem, you saw what you wanted to see in my post, not what was actually said.

Ok, my original post got deleted for being sarcastic (is a crime now) so I'll attempt to add something "sensible" to the conversation.....

Is there anyone who was there on the traveller day last year and this year as well? I went last year and other than the snow I didn't think it was that bad.

The moment someone uses the word “snowflake” in an online argument they have already lost the debate...

I was there last year, and yes they were far better behaved last year and they gave my wife a lot of respect. This year they were a lot worse than I've ever seen before, they were causing trouble in every area, the towers security did a great job as soon as they were called to one area, they then got called to another.

The police did absolutely nothing apart from just standing there in order to keep the peace. I suppose the police did a better job than these

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ice-officers-ride-dodgems-duty-Hull-Fair.html

As far as I last heard was the security was still looking for the guy that entered the Oblivion restricted area. I don't know if he was caught.

Yes the travellers have the right to enter the park just like the rest of us, but we also have the right to enjoy a day out with family and small children without having the day spoilt and being on the receiving end of intimidation.

I feel sorry for those that attend the park once a year and spend many months planning their trip, only to find that their day is ruined. It's all very well saying that avoid the weekend. But don't forget that last year, no one (not even Alton Towers) could have predicted that they were going to turn up on the Friday.
